Many of us have hard drives that we use to store our home movies and music or have endless amounts of DVDs and CDs, so it would make sense to store them all in one place. The difference with a media drive is that you can store then play all of your multimedia files, home movies, etc directly to your TV - no streaming, no hassle and without the need to conect to a PC once the files have been loaded. Just simply plug in, sit back and enjoy!

It is always a grind buying computer and AV bits, finding out which manufacturers have broken what standards, to make it work with the latest version of Windows at the expense of those who have a mind to dare think about and choose their operating systems.
No problems with the little INoI.. Plug it in with Ubuntu Linux, and away it goes - its a generic USB storage device! :-) Well. it was formatted with NTFS as standard, but will work formatted to FAT-32. (NTFS works ok "out of the box" with Ubuntu 7.04 upwards, may work on earlier versions, and is doable on most linux system with a bit of fiddling. - but its fine to reformat to FAT-32 "out of the box", providing you don't use any files bigger than 2GB - a Microsoft Limit)
Good stuff: Fast (especially when reformatted) USB2 hard disk, quality Western Digital drive, Reasonably ergonomic and simple to use media player, with reasonable picture and sound quality. works well with many sensible file formats. Handles common subtitle formats reasonably well, though requires some twiddling. Lovely aluminium case design that runs "warm", but seems to do so safely.
Bad stuff: STUPID "On" button on rear of unit. Why doesn't it just power up into standby???
Distracting bright blue LED, Fairly noisy, formatted with NTFS out of the box, does not support Ogg Vorbis/Theora audio/video formats (EVERYTHING should, they are technically excellent and license/royalty free standards!)
Big Minus-Remote control is flimsy AND CANNOT BE REPLACED, the unit is a brick without it. (well, an external hard drive, but nowt else..)
It doesn't support Matroska either, but you can't have it all.
Overall good value for money, but could be quieter, have more subtle LEDs, power up "in standby" rather than requiring a user to get up and reach around the back to press a little button, should support ogg vorbis audio and theora video standards, and possibly Matroska containers too.
For a little under £100 (It was on an offer) it was a bargain, and replaced a much more expensive (and quite recent) unit.
