A silicon photodiode fabricated in PIN planar technology that can be operated either as a photodiode, with reverse voltage, or as a photovoltaic cell. The device is in a 5mm package and has solder tab terminals with 2.54mm(0.1in.) lead spacing. A daylight filter option SFH2030F is also available. Short lead/flat on body denotes cathode. Q- Please can you tell me if this is suitable for an alarm school project, and what kind of light is it responsive to, ie what kind of device do I need to buy to activate it cheers - carol miers

Answer- This would be suitable, as part of an appropriate circuit. The SFH2030 is reponsive to visible light up through infrared, so a lightbulb, LED or daylight would all be suitable. The SFH2030F responds to infrared (invisible) light only so you would need a suitable infrared LED such as YH70M or CY85G.
