Installation instructions Please copy the downloaded files to an SD Card or USB Memory Stick (The size limit for these expansion cards is 4GB) - Insert the SD Card or USB Memory Stick into the miniBook Boot the miniBook.
- Click on the Others Tab in the top right hand corner.
- Click Software Installer.
- Click the ADD button.
- Navigate to the SD Card or USB Memory Stick by double clicking on the .. Icon in the folder list twice, a USB Stick will be accessible through a folder called USB, an SD Card through a folder called SD.
- Double click on the SD or USB folder and then double click on the SD_1 or USB_1 folder to see the files on that storage device. If you have saved the files in a folder on that device then double click on that folder to navigate to the files, otherwise the files will already be listed as:

zd1211b-g-ch12_13-driver-patch-65(20080829).info - Double click on the file called zd1211b-g-ch12_13-driver-patch-65(20080829).info.
- Click the Finish button when it has finished installing.
- When the Software Installer screen reappears Click the Add button again.
- Double click on the file called wireless-lan-R3-1168(20080716).info.
- Click the Update button.
- Click the Finish button when it has finished installing.
- Click the Close button to close Software Installer.
- Shut down the miniBook.
When the miniBook restarts the new drivers should be installed and these should resolve any wireless issues.

While not for me I can see why others would find this useful. It is very small and light, the screen is clear, the keyboard usable with my big hands. I wanted something of this size mainly just to pickup emails and view web pages. I also wanted to use it with a portable 120GB external hard drive to transfer images and videos from the SD card of my camera. It was easy to download and update the software from the website. It handled the external hard drive without any problems. So my first impression was good bearing in mind it is only £89. However, the Linux operating system just is not for me. Some of the web sites I wanted to view needed ActiveX plugin. I don’t know if Linux browsers can use ActiveX but if they can I could not figure it out. Another page said it needed Java and would not load. I am sure that if I had persevered I could have worked out exactly what was wrong, perhaps a newer browser or an update from Sun, who knows. The last straw for me was my 3 mobile phone. If you link it via the USB cable to windows XP it is immediately recognized as a modem and you can get on the internet. You don’t have to do anything, it just works. I linked it and a number of other mobile phones to this netbook but nothing I tried could get them to be recognized as a modem. I downloaded the modem drivers but after some while realised that they only work with USB dongles, not mobile phones. So in conclusion, it this hardware came with Windows XP (impossible at this price) it would have been just about perfect for me, but I found that Linux was just too difficult. So I took it back to Maplin and they gave me my money back without a quibble.

I bought this to give internet access while travelling. It is easy to carry and ideal for internet access on the move.
It's not as fast as my PC but it has worked reliably and is very much better than the PocketSurfer I previously used. It boots quickly, offers basic word processing, spreadsheet, messaging, POP3 email and quickly finds a wireless network or can be used with a mobile broadband dongle. I use Vodafone Top Up and Go which works well but note the connection setting should be 'pp.internet' not 'internet' as quoted on CnM's website.
This is my first experience of Linux but it's been just as intuitive to use as Windows. The only downside for me is that it doesn't appear to be fully compatible with Hotmail webmail or the POP email program either in that messages can be read either via POP or webmail, but not responded to. Other email accounts seem fine, including googlemail.
The screen is bright and clear, keypad comfortable to use, a mouse can be attached to one of the 3 USB sockets and battery life is fair lasting about 2 hours.
The CnM website is quite helpful in providing fixes, patches and updates - via a patch the netbook can now support a USB flash drive of up to 32GB. CnM provide a downloadable video player - although this hasn't worked well for me; nor has the installed media player.
However, their Technical Support service seems to be lacking. I contacted Technical Support twice but still haven't received any response after 16 days which is disappointing.

Ordered 2 of these as at such a good price. The first day they worked fine after installing everything then then next day, it kept freezing and wouldnt turn off, then all the settings for the internet disappeared and i couldnt go on the net without installing everything each time, then it wouldnt detect the usb device but the day before it did...numerous other problems. Hope I get them replaced with current stock levels...

Arrived very quickly next day (free delivery)
Great price £89 with a money off voucher.
Good looking product, soon had it 'charging' (recommended 6 hours), and connected to Internet with emails working.
BUT unplugged it and it doesn't switch on! Battery dead? It is inside but no power. Instructions fail to show diagram of unit to check for switches.
Found Customer Care email contact and notified them Friday - still awaiting reply Tuesday. I hope they can replace with fully working unit before stocks sell out.
