Can I use some thing like a magic eye (as per a Sky box) to control this unit remotely.

No sorry this product does not support that.

Does the installation service available to purchase with this include installing and positioning the dish and connecting it to the Humax box?

yes the installation service includes the required accessories, connection and alignment of the dish.

Can I use a cable splitter to provide the 2 'LNB' feeds from what begins as a single cable from my dish? [I do not know what LNB stands for]

Unfortunately not.

Is there anywhere on the Web we can see what exactly what channels Freesast will pick up, without having to know which sat is where and what they're called... Are they just the same as Freeview or is there more free channels ? VERY Many Thanks FreD

This can only record Freesat from the built in tuners.

Just for information - this product allows different regions ( both BBC and ITV ) to be viewed.

Very easy to use Freesat HD Decoder and now with BBC iPlayer Beta capability. (Fast Broadband Required) Remote Control can also be set to operate any TV or DVD Player. Picture quality is superb for either SD or HD signals.

If you don't want to give SKY all of your money, this is an excellent alternative and the EPG is as user friendly as SKY's. Only snag is that you need two feeds from a satellite dish, but with a little DIY know how and a long drill bit it's not too difficult! When freesat get more HD channels this unit will handle them and will be even more appealing!

I bought one of these about 2 years ago, after a careful search, reading customer reviews, and after waiting for the later model to be released.

My patience paid off - this is a peach of a machine. I usually record all programmes, and watch them later. I no longer know which programme is on which channel.

The great features are (1) FreeSat (2) twin tuner.

My gripes with it are mainly to do with the interface: (1) the OS is single tasking, so sometimes you have to wait for one operation to finish before another can be started. For example, if you delete a recording, it sits there showing you an animation of a file moving into a wastebasket until it's finished. You can't start another deletion, and it'll keep interrupting your interface.

(2) It randomly moves your focus from one part of the interface to another. For some reason, it seems to favour the second item on the recording list.

(3) All TV programmes are placed in folders. There's no option to view them in date order, it's in alphabetical order by folder.

(4) There are completely separate recording lists for TV, radio, and other kinds of media.

(5) The onscreen text is quite low contrast (grey on grey) so it can be difficult to read.

(6) I have the user resonse time ffor pop-up boxes set to its maximum, which is about 8 seconds. It's difficult to find the remote controller in that time, let alone work out what the low-contrast text says.

(7) Some displays are ambiguous; for example, if you press Pause during playback, the box displays "Start Recording".

These gripes aside, this is a cracking little device, and I'm therefore giving it 4 stars to show that it's "Nearly" perfect.

I am using the Humax in Menorca with a 1.2 metre dish and the results are superb in SD and HD you can use it with one LNB and if the polarity is the same, record one channel and watch another. If the the station polarity is different you with need a twin LNB.The only thing that lets it down a little is the remote (not as good as SKY), although the Hard Drive unit has a better one than the standard HD model. I am using Meridian for ITV and this is the best signal for Menorca. A great buy.
