Unfortunately hair tongs do not function correctly of transformers like this I am afraid. These units do not adapt the frequency of the connection (i.e. 50-60 Hz and visa versa) which is usually required by hair tongs.

UP91Y should be fine, providing the load is less than 300w.

Which transformer is which (referring to the pictures)?

The handled one is the 300vA, whereas the smaller one is 100vA.

No the frequency can not be changed I'm afraid.

I see that the convertor is not suitable for hair tongs but would a bonnet hairdryer work.

No sorry this product does not support that.

I have two questions. If I have DJ equipment that uses 220/230 50/60hz will it work in the US with this transformer? Also if I run a multiple plug socket thing through this and have 4 or so plugs connected into the transformer will that be dangerous?

Both questions are related. You can use DJ equipment etc and 4 way plug adapters etc as long you do not exceed the total wattage limit of the transformer (for example if you had a 100w transformer you could not exceed a total draw of 100w).
