Despite some of the negative reviews, this itemdoes the job reasonably well.
You're not going to get CD quality sound (and I could live without having to download iTunes, but that's just me), but as long as the tape your transferring is in decent condition, you won't have any major problems.

Without doubt the worst piece of Ion equipment they have ever made. The cassette mechanism is cheap. The wow and flutter is horrendous.
I owned the thing for less than 2 hours including purchase, test and return.

Delighted, nearly did not buy when reading reviews, but as there was £10 off the price decided to take a chance.
I have not used the software that came with the tape express as I use Nero which is also very easy to use as it has a 'tape to CD wizard' with good sound results after converting to MP3s.

Brilliant product. Would recommend that every home had one.

Oh dear, such a promising concept but I'm afraid it just does not deliver. The recorded sound files are horribly distorted - too much even to clean up with Audacity.

poor music quality, alot of wow and flutter Moderator note: The quality of the source material is directly proportionate to the quality of output. Inconsistently wound cassettes or damaged cassetes etc will yield inconsistent or poor results.
If a playback issue is experienced it is recommended to check the quality of the tape via a seperate tape deck to confirm this is not related to the quality of the source material.

I have just purchased Ion USB Tape Express, a good idea in principle.
But the replay quality is poor, lots of distortion due to unstable
tape transport. Regret I have to return this item

This product is really easy to use. It really is plug and play. The bundled software is OK for conversion to MP3 for shop bought prerecorded cassettes. However, for transfering and cleaning up home made recordings I found Wavosaur freeware better. However, no complaints with the hardware at all.

Brought Ion tape archiver home and copied one tape. Despite tape having good sound quality, I checked, incredible amount of flutter and other extraneous noise from the Ion unit.
