Switch on the transmitter, line up the receiver (up to 20m away) and switch on. The receiver will sound whenever the invisible infra-red beam is broken. It can be set to chime once or chime continuously (with volume adjustable to low, medium or high) or set to a continuous high level siren. Each pair features a coded infrared transmission and a switch for high or low power output. Both of the units require three AA batteries or a 6V plug-in mains adaptor each (sold separately).

Answer- unfortunately this is unlikely to work as any interruption to the beam will cause the alarm to activate (even a clear surface is likely to still affect the beam).
Q- Will the signal to the chimer travel through external and internal walls or will this reduce the working distance?

Q- Is the 'beam' a fairly fine one? I was hoping that if I fit it at a height of about a metre that my pet could walk under the beam yet if a person enters the unit would chime

Q- Can the beam be reflected by a quaility morror so the sender and reciever can be mounter on one side of the threshold and not on either side? If not do you have a device where the beam can be reflected?
