Customer Reviews on this Product

I bought one of these almost 2 years ago and it's still working fine today. I used it originally to track the whereabouts of a relative with dementia who was prone to wander. It was a great way quickly provide a location within 20'ish feet for the price of a text message. I'm now using it to 'protect' my motorcycle. A Fully charged battery in the tracker lasts around 3 days so if the bike is stolen I stand some chance of finding it fast.

This Tracker does exactly what it says on the Maplin website. It's easy to set up if you follow the instructions (A PC is essential to programme the device and to make any changes to set up). In practice I find the battery will last about 72hrs before it needs recharging, assuming a position fix about every 6 hours.
A few points:
The device does need a clear view of the sky. Sometimes acquires satellites if close to a window, but otherwise GPS does not work indoors. Neither will it work in the glovebox of my car, but it will work if left on the back seat in a bag.
The device is no more waterproof than a standard mobile phone. If it's exposed to the weather it will need to be in a waterproof bag or container.
In UK I've found the unit will generally give an impressively accurate fix to within about 5 metres. You can also input the co-ordinates into mapping programmes other than Google. I find Multimap.com gives a much clearer close up picture of the location.
I plan to give this to my daughter when she goes backpacking. My only concern is whether she will find places to recharge - but if the unit is turned off between fixes the battery will last far longer. Great that it can also be used as an emergency mobile phone from anywhere in the World, to any of 3 numbers you designate - and it can receive calls too.
