After previous bad experience with low-price slide scanners I hoped that this one would live up to its billing. Alas, No - at least not for the one I have received. The resolution is there and the colour depth is there but the colour balance is awful. All my slides come out essentially in shades of blue. The filter adjustments built in are inevitably crude and even if set, revert to standard after each slide so that is a non-starter. That the information is actually in the image is revealed by the fact that processing the colour balance with Paint Shop Pro produces a reasonable representation of the original. If you don't have such a package you are stuck and really, it should not be necessary moderator note: free photo manipulation can be obtained online as an alternative to programes such as photoshop which allow for the adjusting of colour balance (such as Gimp2.7)

I was surprise at how easy this is to set up and use. It is really useful to be able to run it without having to connect it to a PC - the scan goes to the local SD card that can then be read on a PC (via USB if required). The auto feed for slides is a good idea if you have many slides to scan but it is not well enough engineered to cope with the old Kodak cardboard slides as they are too thin. I found the easiest way to use it to avoid them jamming was to feed them in one at a time and slide the lever back and forth for each slide. The menu for adjusting the brilliance and/or colour is a bit fiddly - if you are transferring the scans to a PC it's easier to edit them once they are on the PC.

Easy to use, great product, excellent results, downside no holder for 110 film.

Very satisfied with the service I received from Maplin as always. I have only just begun to use the scanner and, whilst I think I will have some teething troubles with it, I know there is always somewhere I can go to to get help and advice
