Q)

My car has an alarm and immobiliser which is turned on at all times the car is parked - being a sports car it is not used that often - does this unit still keep the battery topped up whilst these items are still switched on or would the power generated simply be used by them and the battery not trickle charge at all ?

A)

The battery would still be trickle charged by this.

Q)

Your packaging states that the panel LED shows BLUE when charging and RED when discharging power into battery.I have not seen it show RED at all.Does this mean that the battery is NOT charging.

A)

No, the unit has had a change in manufacturing, it now uses only the Blue LED to show charge status.

Q)

My cig lighter is no live with car ignition turned off, will battery be recharged in this condition?

A)

No sorry.

Excellent value and does just what it says on the box. Ideal for keeping the battery on my motorcycle charged this winter.

I only drive three miles to work each day and my car is parked up for long periods. This solar panel is ideal for keeping my battery topped up.

Now i can be confident my car will start at 3am this winter.

This panel is ideal for trickle charging my diesel car battery that is used very infrequently.
It maintains sufficient charge so that even while the car alarm and Immobiliser systems are working continuously the battery remains in fully charged state.
After fixing the panel to the inside of the window using the suckers the cable can be trapped in the wound up window and run under the closed car bonnet. The winter months still provide sufficient output.

The crocodile clip fell apart on first use, but seemed to work OK, though it's hard to tell when the battery is actually charging as the blue light flashes all the time.

Very good solar panel, it works even in daylight. I think it uses a voltage regulator built-in, as seems to be able to keep the voltage around 18v no matter on the amount of light (in reasonable lighting conditions - e.g cloudy day. I Have tested the voltage and it seems to be around 17-18 volts, which is a good voltage for charging 12v batteries. I have it permenantly connected to a small 12v 6ah lead-acid battery which runs a small inverter. From a day of charge in mild sun on window (after voltage gone down for inverter to cut off), I can run a 20watt fan for around 40-55 mins, or charge my mobile up fully. The average power I recorded from this panel in mildly sunny conditions is around 500-600mah worth of charge - meaning every day it puts 0.5 of 6ah's into my battery. You get a good length of cable - around 2-3 metres.

I got one of these for my 1972 VW camper van after having starting problems due to a low battery- and it works great. I leave it plugged in for long periods over the winter and it always starts first time. When away camping i connect it to my leisure battery which is ideal if you have one as you can keep that topped up too. Would highly reccomend!
