This review is for those of you who use ubuntu. This wifi card is so easy that I simply cannot use it without telling you how awesome it is. It is a fair price and it has a detachable ariel for those of you who like to make your own baked bean cantennas, although check your warranty before you start tampering.

Enough waffle, let me tell you my experience with this wifi card. I have an ancient pentium3 which has a mere 2 usb1 slots. One is occupied with a tiny 2quid bluetooth adaptor and the other is for usb memory sticks, so I needed a pci wifi card as I was about to install ubuntu 9.04. After slotting this pci card into my motherboard, I popped the ubuntu live cd into my drive and let it install. It automatically detected the card with no need for ndiswrapper or any drivers at all.

At the gnome desktop I hovered my mouse over the network manager icon, near the clock in the top right hand corer. I single left mouse clicked it and instantly I was shown all the wifi routers in my area. I clicked the radio button for my router, eg mine had an ssid of BTHomeHub. Ubuntu asked for the wpa key and so I entered it. This can also be achieved by right clicking it, depending on your ubuntu version (and I think this card will work with 8.04lts). I was asked for a default keyring password, so I made one up that was easy to remember and all in lowercase and wrote it down. Anyway, then I got the message that flashed up in the top right corner, saying I was connected and I navigated to maplin website and wrote this review and you are now reading it.

Easy peasy. No programming required. Now I shall just click the install to hard drive icon on the destop and all my settings will be there, installed on the machine but even so, connecting to another device such as a 3g mifi should also be a doddle.

This wifi card is good. If you want an easy life an you are on ubuntu, get it. If you go for another wifi card an use ndswrapper, you may or may not find that your card continues to work as you update ubuntu, but with this card you dont even need to worry about that. All I can say is WOW.

Have to agree with the earlier review: works seamlessly with Ubuntu 10.04, which is a relief after struggling (and failing) with my Edimax EW-7711UAn.

Fine with XP. Have never used one of these before so nothing to compare it to but installation was a cinch. Slotted it in, booted, XP found it and found the driver on the supplied CD. Good value solution. As long as you run XP and only need 'G' wifi.
