Product details

12V Auto-Voltage Car/Air Laptop Adapter with USB Socket 2.1A With 9 Charging Tip

• Includes Empower™ plane adapter and 12V car plug
• Auto-voltage detection with digital display
• Includes 9 power tips for maximum compatibility
• 2.1A USB power, suitable for Apple iPad charging
• Over voltage/current protection

Please Note: Empower™ plane sockets are typically restricted to 75W output in order to maintain a safe environment for all passengers. Please check with a qualified engineer to ensure this will not adversely affect the use of your appliance on a plane.WARNING: This adapter should only be used with laptops and ancillary devices that have the exact same voltage requirement as those offered. In addition, you must ensure that your equipment does not require more current (measured in amps) than that provided by the adapter at the correct voltage setting. If, however, your equipment requires less or equal amps to those provided at the correct voltage, then it is ok to use. All laptop charging tips provided have a centre-positive polarity - please check this matches the requirements of your equipment prior to use, and if in any doubt, seek professional guidance. Maplin Electronics Ltd. accepts no responsibility for damage caused to equipment through not observing these instructions correctly.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Purchased this item specifically for use on a Virgin Atlantic long haul flight which have Empower in-seat power sockets. The unit does have what looks like a standard Empower 4 pin plug, however I was unable to get it to work in any socket I tried onboard - in 4 or 5 different seats. I believe the empower plug on this unit is not compatible with the standard empower socket as the green light on the socket is supposed to go out when the plug goes in. Either that or my unit was just faulty. If you purchase this item for the same reasons I did, I would definitely recommend testing it if possible before getting on a 12hr flight...

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor compatibility Bought this item for an old hp laptop. They had the right tip, right power output but because of the 'helpful' auto voltage detect you cannot select the voltage yourself. Instead you're stuck with the voltage they have selected for that particular tip!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product if you accept the limitations. I've tried numerous cheapo 12 volt laptop chargers with limited success and reliability to charge a 17 inch Samsung laptop an an Asus UX305 Zenbook (an additional 2.1mm to 1.35mm in-line adaptor required for the Zenbook. This device has done everything we have asked of it in our Caravan while 'off grid' in combination with a 115ah leisure battery charged via solar. You do need to be aware of the following points: It does not auto detect the voltage required. The individual tips actually set the voltage which may cause a problem with older devices. The 2.1mm tip does run at 19v so you could always get a 2.1mm to whatever tip adaptor if that is the correct voltage. If the supply voltage drops below 12v, the unit does not function correct and starts to 'pulse'. This is common but could make you thing the device is faulty as there is no warning that the supply voltage is insufficient (you'll end up damaging a car/leisure battery running below 12v for extended periods anyway. On the whole I think it's a good device. Runs cool and charges efficiently. I cannot comment on aircraft compatibility.

Can it be used at home with a main-12v adapter? I would lke to power a device that requires 19.5v 4.7 amp if so, which wall/12V adapter would I need? (12v output but how many amps?)

Can it be used to provide a regulated/ stable 12V output - or shall I simply run my Intel NUC2820FYKH (12V dc 3A input) directly from a led-acid battery, which seems to be at 13V+ when fully recharged?

Asked by: Simon
Yes this will work fine in your intended application.
