The Perma-Proto board was designed as a high quality version of a perf board to connect to your Raspberry Pi. With this board you can solder a large range of components to form any kind of circuit you wish to create. At the centre of the board, where an integrated circuit would usually be placed, there is space to connect to your Raspberry Pi. This gives you a re-programmable way of determining how your circuits behave depending on how you instruct your Raspberry Pi.
This board also gives you a place to permanently host your circuit prototypes that are otherwise situated temporarily on a breadboard. Moving your circuit from a half-sized breadboard to this Perma-Proto board has been made considerably simple to do. This is due to holes on the Perma-Proto being laid out in the same arrangement and same hole spacing as a half-size breadboard.
To connect this to your Raspberry Pi, the included box header must be soldered onto the board. Once this is in place, a 26-pin GPIO cable can be connected between your board and your Raspberry Pi. If you do not have a GPIO cable, they are available here.What can I use the Perma-Proto board for?
This board opens up the opportunity for you to combine the power of your Raspberry Pi with electronic circuits to control and monitor the world around you. Unlike a regular, thicker breadboard, you can solder components on to store your projects permanently on this board which is only 1.6mm thick.
You can use this breadboard to quickly reference and construct your projects as, unlike regular perf boards, the pins are clearly, individually numbered.
The underside reveals how the pins are connected. This is where you can solder the box header, connecting wire and components.
This Perma-Proto board has its pins arranged in the following layout:
14 rows of 5-pin pairs
13 rows of 4-pin pairs connected to the GPIO connector
1 row of 4-pin pairs
4 rows of 27 pins which act as power rails
There is no solder mask covering the connecting tracks on the underside of the board. This enables you to make you breaks in the track easily, adding your own customisation to the circuitry as you see fit.What is compatible with my Perma-Proto board?
This Perma-Proto board is compatible with all Raspberry Pi models up to and including Raspberry Pi Version 2. Their compatibility comes from the fact that they all have at least 26 GPIO pins.
This board has been designed with pin holes of 1.2mm, making it suitable for even the thicker end of electronic wires to fit. This board has been designed with the purpose of being embedded into your projects and to fit in project boxes. This is achieved by its slim design and six holes on the board built for mounting within projects or to other fixtures.
It is also compatible with projects that spend a considerable amount of time in moist and humid conditions because all of the exposed conductor is gold plated and not the bare copper and therefore it will not rust.
