The GPIO header on your Raspberry Pi makes it a great platform for developing and prototyping electronics. Unfortunately these pins are not the easiest to integrate into an electronics setup on a breadboard. The T-Cobbler is a clever device that enables you to transfer all of your Raspberry Pi connections to a breadboard.
Now your Raspberry Pi GPIO pins can sit at the centre of your breadboard for your prototype, allowing you to experiment and create by plugging and unplugging electronic instruments. These can range from small components like resistors, buttons and LEDs to buzzers, motors and LCD displays.
The name comes from the fact that once it is set up with your Raspberry Pi, it gives you the ability to cobble together whichever project you see fit to build with the components you have available.What can I use the T-Cobbler for?
You can use the T-Cobbler for embedded projects, gaining skills and experience in building functioning electronic circuits. The primary use of this apparatus is to connect the header unit on your Raspberry Pi to a breadboard. This is done via the supplied header unit, which must first be soldered onto your T-Cobbler. It is estimated that a beginner can complete this initial setup within 15 minutes.
The supplied ribbon cable connects your T-Cobbler to your Raspberry Pi and the order of the pins has been designed to be identical for both. This makes the T-Cobbler an excellent extension for your Raspberry Pi because you can use existing diagrams for the Raspberry Pi GPIO layout to correlate directly to the pin layout on the breadboard. In addition to that, the pins are each individually, clearly labelled making creating a lot simpler.
With this T-Cobbler unit, you have the opportunity to expand the regular capability of your Raspberry Pi. This provides the ability to build your own custom circuitry on a breadboard and make quick modifications as and when you require.What is compatible with the T-Cobbler board?
The pins on the T-Cobbler are compatible with a number of protocols, including I2C and SPI over the GPIO.

This version of the T-Cobble is compatible with Raspberry Pi models A and B for versions 1 and 2. Please note that model is not compatible with the B+. Should you wish to connect a T-Cobbler to a different Raspberry Pi model, there is an assembled version for A+, B+ and Version 2 available here.
