This compact mixer with built-in effects doubles as a computer recording interface so you can mix, record, or do both at the same time. Whether you are mixing a band or sub-mixing a group of inputs, such as a drum set, the MultiMix 8 USB FX is easy to use, rugged, and packed with features. Offering microphone inputs with phantom power, guitar-direct inputs, and line-level inputs for connecting everything else, plus a wide range of effects, the MultiMix 8 USB FX delivers clean audio to your PA or recording system plus hassle-free computer connection.
MultiMix 8 USB FX features four XLR inputs with independent gain pots on channels one through four. These XLR inputs also have a switchable phantom power option to accommodate both dynamic and condenser microphones. TRS Line inputs are also available on all eight channels of MultiMix 8 USB FX. New to the MultiMix 8 USB FX is a high-impedance input on channel two, which allows direct connection of a guitar or bass; this is a great convenience for singer/songwriters looking to get a clean, "hot" signal. A Tape RCA stereo input is also included adding the ability to mix in audio from other sources such as a CD or LP player.
MultiMix 8 USB FX includes an internal effects processor to quickly and easily add new colours to your mix. Reverb, Delay or Phaser can be dialed up simply by adjusting the pre or post fader knobs located within each channel strip. MultiMix 8 USB FX also contains Aux Out and stereo returns, as well as, insert jacks on channels one and two to allow for audio to be processed by external effects engines. MultiMix 8 USB FX gives you an impressive amount of routing options in such a compact size.
Like the other mixers in Alesis’ MultiMix USB series, the MultiMix 8 USB FX contains a complete USB recording interface. Musicians and engineers can plug the MultiMix 8 USB FX’s class-compliant USB connection into their Mac or PC without installing any software drivers and enjoy a digital-direct stereo connection with virtually any audio software application. The MultiMix 8 USB FX enables bidirectional stereo signal, so musicians can record the stereo Main output into their computer and listen back using the mixer as an interface from software to headphones and monitoring loudspeakers.
A number of key design improvements are included on the MultiMix 8 USB FX. Enlarged knob-to-knob spacing improves ergonomics and in-use efficiency. The newly designed mixer introduces a sleek new appearance for the MultiMix series and incorporates new, removable end caps, which can be helpful for squeezing the MultiMix 8 USB FX into smaller spaces in tightly packed setups. In addition to its improved signal-to-noise ratio specifications, the new mixer consumes 36% less power than its predecessor for reliability and energy efficiency.

Incredible product. Brillant mixing desk for starters and more advenced users.Brillant for live proformers and it has a built in amp to maximize the sound. One problem with cuebace, it can send audio to cubace but can't record straight to cuebace. I have already recorded through a computer but it was a live recording through various programs.
I had my mixer 6 months then one day i turned it on, it poped and didnt come back on. Took it into maplins. I got it returned with a new power pack, worked for 2 minutes then poped again. 2nd time i took it back and got returned with a second power pack and popped once again and wouldnt come on anymore. I then got given a new mixer to replace it. This worked for about 2 months upto day and again today i switched it on an guess what. It popped again, going to phone maplins up tomorrow but i wouldn't reccomend this.
Sadly, have to rate this a no-stars disaster (but had to put one-star due to a stupid submit requirement!!!) that may or may not be a case of sheer bad luck on the example i purchased about a week or so back. Had a few doubts about it before buying, having heard of examples of the PSU's dying prematurely but figured it was odd examples, i'd not be that unlucky. After 15 or so minutes of use (dynamic mic testing only at this stage), got an almightly bloody loud pop on the phone monitor down the left side (loud enough to hurt - and no, the vol wasn't up excessively) and the whole left side of the master output (analogue) was gone. After a full restart (inputs turned down, main and monitor levels down, gains down etc. Following manfacturer recommendations), when it came up with zero output once the levels were set again, and after yet another shut down, the mixer failed to power up at all. A quick test showed the PSU had gone open-circuit on the primary side of the trans. Not a good start really, given that replacements aint exactly easy to source - and consequently had no real way to test if the PSU failure had caused equipment damage to mixer before it failed (notably, the POP wasn't inspiriting in that dept.). So whilst i totally believe a good package is a good place to start with (and clearly, some have had good examples), mine went straight back next day, and i scrapped the plan to risk a second example and also the Alesis comp i was intending to order next - at least the StudioPack 702 i also bought a week before (intended to link both to get extra inputs) survived a bit longer (a lot longer, it's still working A1).
Wonderful mixing desk! Allows me to mix Skype callers from my Mac, my studio mic, guest mic and wireless mics for my live stream. I would reccomend this for any one wanting a mixing desk for a pub or small club or just for use in a hobby (such as running an internet radio station etc).
This unit is ideal for recording our band practices, I connect this to my netbook and it records the mix. There’s enough inputs for all of our band, however we really need the 16-channel version to record all of the drums

dose this mixer act as a usb external sound card? Thanks, Mark
Regarding the Portable Multimix 8 USB, how do I listen to the sound through the PC, currently I can only hear the mix through the headphones. The only other way this was configurable was through Cubase as the other Alesis drivers did not work.
All USB audio devices are classed as additional audio, to hear through your sound card there may be latency problems and therefore the sound not be "live" (there will be a delay). We recommend using headphones. Otherwise, if you go to control panel and change the default audio devices, this is how it is accomplished

Does this item have an XLR output so we can connect it to our sound desk?
Can I put this output from this mixer through a pro-sound amp to use for gigs as well as for studio?

could i play a track on my mac, have it go through the mixer by usb, and then to my amp?? thanx
Can you supply a replacement power supply?
When plugged into the computer, are you able to record each track separately for or does it just record the mixed output?
