Excellent product. I have had mine for about 2 years. This was the first HD box that worked with USB record capability. A few minor things that do not work ie. programme rename due to dual use of common button and Fav button bit temperamental. I currently use the box to scan 5 satellites using a rotator (Maplin own brand unit) and 80cm dish with no problems. This configuration will allow you to select about 30 French language channels and lots of English news and free sat channels. Main thing to remember is with programme record you need to keep a paper hardcopy to identify record date and channel with programme description. It did take a little while to realise that you had to press the zero key in the Media player to locate recorded programmes file group.
Connected the Dish to the box, plugged in, switched on and selected Auto Installation.15 minutes later it had found the relevant satelliites and added all the programs. Simply brilliant for non technical people.
The manual is the only weakness with this product. The fact is the picture and sound provided outstrips a conventional sky box in terms of quality to an embarrassing extent. That really surprised me.
Almost good. Problems with audio not syncing to picture and randomly the audio distorts and bo needs to be reset to clear it, not so good when recording...
Fantastic value, great little box. Very happy with it.
Nice one for the price + using a voucher as well. Plugged into the old sky dish, and it found it and all seemed to work fine. Seems pretty versatile. Must sort out the other dish and see what the other satellites have to offer. Some bits you need to read the manual carefully to know what to do. Only gripe, its a bit slow scanning for the channels, otherwise it OK.
Not 'freesat' approved (though that means extra goodies). Can select from all available satellites (not just astra and eurobird). Choose to scan for either: all channels or freesat channels only, plus decide whether to scan just for tv, or tv and radio channels too.
Once scanned can can make up groups of 'favourite' channels and show any one group from which to select your favourite channels. This is not quite so easy as it sounds because the menu appears to act quite differently once a 'favourite' channel group is set up! The box is tiny compared to a sky box. (Much better).
It has a usb port into which you can plug a hard drive (simple). Then, it is equally simple to record onto the hard drive any program that the box is tuned-in to: be it SD or HD. (And to play it back afterwards too). Full record, stop, playback, etc., etc.buttons on remote.
The menu has an 'eject usb safely' mode. Thus the hard drive can be left plugged into the box (only runs when the box is on). Or removed and used for other purposes between recordings. So far my picture (working on cable unplugged from a sky box) is far superior in both standard def and HD compared to my sky box picture. The picture is more 'in focus' and the colours are far, far better. HD is absolutely outstanding. Don't know whether the hdmi output upscales standard def or not - but if not, it doesn't need to do; the picture is great anyway.
Tuning in, setting-up, etc. does require some knowledge (and/or a lot of trial and error. But don't let that stop you if you are half way sat-savvy. On first building my 'favourite' channel groups and 'switching back' to watch normally afterwards, my box froze. I had to turn off and restart to get it working. Later I turned on the box from 'cold' and had a picture but no sound! Again, a restart made things right.
For a week since though I've had no further 'incidents'. That's about how long I have had the box. The box as working is splendid - as I expect that you may have deduced. If the box continues to 'behave', I will be delighted that I bought it - (as I am right now). The box 'fires up' from cold within a few seconds, and thereafter changes channels instantaneously. Fab. Try one.
