The large LCD touchscreen makes the operation of the unit incredibly simple and allows comprehensive adjustment and correction for your location. The USB wireless weather station requires no connecting cable between the base station and the remote weather transmitting sensors, with a typical sensor range of 60m (200ft). It can also display historic data and within the menu you can select metric or imperial values. Programme the LCD panel and download stored data and then display it in data base format for keeping your own weather history. If you are in an area or situation where weather plays a critical part, then you can switch on an alarm that can be triggered by any of the data sensors. This weather station offers amazing value and comes with everything you need to set it up in the garden. The system comprises large 23 x 14.5 x 3.5 cm LCD control panel, wind speed sensor, wind direction sensor, rain gauge, outside temperature sensor and transmitter, stub mast, sensor mounting arms, sensor cable harness, USB lead and PC software (not MAC compatible).

  • Works well

OK, so I have problems with the first unit but Maplin replaced the transmitter which worked only for a few minutes. Once done it has reliably held the connection to base station. I have the unit connected to a raspberry pi and use nodejs to read the data and provide a HTTP data service and UI, you can get those here https://github.com/haricotbean/WeatherStation. 4 stars due to the need for the replacement.

  • Unreliable device

This is a touch screen version of a device usually marketed under the 'Easyweather' brand. It is likely to be even more troublesome than the non-touchscreen model. I have had four of these devices over about three years and they have all proved full of problems. The anemometer (wind speed detector) has a short life and the bearings tend to fail after a few months. The wireless connection between the weather station and the console is erratic and can fail at random. The console itself is prone to stall and loose the USB connection to the pc, requiring a reboot by removing the batteries. With the touch screen device, these irritations are compounded by a very fiddly touch screen interface that soon proves a great frustration. It is difficult to read, is not intuitive and unresponsive. If you want a decent weather station, you need to look for something else.

  • Unreliable data link

Bought one of these a few months ago. There is a tendency for the data link to lock up. It's done it several times. The USB says it's connected in Easy Weather but no data gets transferred to the PC. I've tried it in Cumulus software as well. You have to disconnect the USB and remove the batteries to reset. Of course you then lose any data in the unit. On the plus side, I haven't experienced blocked drains in the rain gauge.

  • Experienced review

Just bought a new one of these; the first one lasted years but finally outdoor relative humidity packed up and the transmitter unit started eating batteries -- new spare transmitter would not talk to my old base station -- shame, as the thing does a good job. A bit fiddly to set up and the instructions are not the clearest but, when you've got the hang of the way the base station works, the device functions well. PC software creates interesting records -- only the rainfall history is problematical -- seems to go on accumulating e.g. won't start a new month at zero (or am I missing a trick?). Tips: 1. Paint the louvred cover of the transmitter white or you'll get exaggerated outdoor temperature readings when there is not much wind and full sun. 2. Put some gauze or fine mesh over the drain holes in the rain gauge and block other holes on underside (e.g. Blutak) or spiders will get in there and tie the seesaw up.

  • Unreliable

Have had it set up in the garden for about 3 weeks and now the connection to the base unit is really unreliable, meaning readings are often missed, specially during the night. It's not like it's very far away or anything. How can you keep max/min weather records if you don't know half the time what the max/min is because the equipment has lost the connection? In other words it doesn't work. The screen could be clearer too.

  • weather station

Touchscreen could be better if back lit so you could see it better and it could show wind speed and gust at same time would be a lot better and be able to connect base station to the mains power so could be back lit all time . Part from that its good value for money and has all the features you need.

  • Very poor

Stops connecting to the base unit after a few minutes. Re-set the transmitter, and that only last a few minutes. For such an expensive item I would have expected better quality from Maplin. I will be returning it for a refund. There must be better units for sale out there for the same price.

  • Overview

I have bought and installed this weather station Overall the kit is easy to assemble and setup. The instructions could do with a re-write as they are no the best A couple of changes to the Kit would be useful 1. The pole in two parts could do with a self tapper screw to stop the top rotating when the bottom half is fixed 2. If the pole had locations for the two arms then the wiring could be significantly reduced and generally tider 3. addition of wire routing on the arms would again help to keep things tidy 4. Captive nuts or nut arrestors in the plastic flanges on the arms would also be helpful 5. Rechargeable batteries that can be charged of the USB All in all though a great piece of kit not withstanding others comments on the display contrast/readability but as i tend to use the PC not really a problem for me

  • Short-lived

It worked for about 3 weeks then the USB link to the PC packed up. The whole thing is not very accurate and it's difficult to see the screen.

  • Rain/Temperature/wind not working

Given a weather Forcaster for Chistmas, found the screen dull and not easy to read also the wireless bit to the screen from the outside sensors has now packed up. I have checked batteries all ok still no responce.
