If you're looking for a dual-purpose telescope appropriate for both terrestrial and celestial viewing, then the AstroMaster Series is for you. Each AstroMaster model is capable of giving correct views of land and sky.

The AstroMaster Series produce bright, clear images of the Moon and planets. It is easy to see the moons of Jupiter and the rings of Saturn with every one of these fine instruments. For views of the brighter deep space objects like galaxies and nebulae, we recommend the larger aperture and light gathering ability of the Newtonian reflectors.

This model includes the motor drive for automatic tracking.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent first telescope, but be aware of limitations I had one of these for a couple of years before upgrading. It is a very good first astronomical telescope, and the optical quality of the 130mm tube is excellent and you'll get some decent views of the moon, major planets and some of the brighter deep sky objects with it. It is let down badly in two areas, the first is the "StarPointer", which is almost useless for its intended purpose (pointing the scope at the object you want to observer). Thankfully it is easily replaced with a something better (search for Telrad). The second problem is the EQ3 mount. It is an equatorial mount, which means it can track objects across the sky by adjusting a single control (or automatically with the motor. Unfortunately this makes it completely unsuitable for terrestrial use. The second problem is that the mount doesn't have a polarscope (a small telescope for aligning the telescope to the celestial north pole) and no way to fit one. Without this aligning it is extraordinarily difficult and unless it is properly aligned it won't track properly, making the motor drive pointless. I only managed to correctly align it 3 or 4 times in two years, and it took literally hours of fiddling each time. Bottom line, good optics, useless "StarPointer", poor mount. If you can afford the extra Ј160, look at the NexStar 130SLT, which is basically the same tube on a computerised "GoTo" mount. It also has a proper "red dot" style finder, which does work.
