What would I use this microphone with?
This microphone connects directly to your computer though the USB connector. This will allow you to make high quality audio transmissions using various applications such as Skype or podcasts. This microphone will make sure that your voice is picked up clearly and without background noise allowing for a higher quality communication without interference. The 30cm cable will allow you to connect the microphone to your computer or laptop and place the microphone wherever you need it for picking up your voice clearly.

What is the advantage of having a dynamic microphone?
Dynamic microphones are widely used because they’re hardwearing, relatively inexpensive and don’t need a power supply. Dynamic microphones are effective when used with loud sound sources that don’t contain a lot of detail at a very high frequency meaning they are perfect for use with picking up vocals as well as a range of instruments such as drums and guitars.

What position does the dynamic microphone pick sound up from?
This microphone has a cardioid polar pattern which means it is more sensitive to sound to the front of the unit and least sensitive at the back. The pickup is based in one direction which makes it effective for isolating unwanted sound as well as having a high resistance to feedback from speakers. This makes it the perfect microphone for using in a live performance environment such as a studio.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The microphone is pretty good. It's solid, simple, and is good for the price. The only issue I faced was sensitivity. It's VERY sensitive. It can pick up mouse clicks, computer fans, distant vehicles, typing, even the TV! An option to change the sensitivity/range without disturbing the volume when close would be great... Hopefully I can buy something to cut out other noises like a box shaped pop filter or something... or maybe there is software that can do it? Worth it for the money but to people who want the basic line: This product is NOT for you if you don't want background noise and you have a quiet environment to work in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I bought this on 'special' at a penny under twenty pounds and it is looking like a good buy. It looks the part and feels very solidly built. I note others' comments with respect to the mini-USB connection to the base of the mic however a black cable tie would firmly hold the cable to the stubby chrome stand and provide effective strain relief. After I plugged it into a USB Port my computer's external speakers stopped working. After right clicking on the 'Taskbar' speaker icon > Playback devices > I found that the mic had become the speaker! I corrected this by right-clicking and selecting 'Disable'. I bought the mic to use with Rosetta Stone 'Teach Yourself Greek' and the mic speaks perfect Greek so long as I do!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not the best sound quality - but more than good enough for VOIP, gaming and podcasts. Can be used from about 1 metre distance - so is ideal for a desktop microphone. Tested under Linux-Mint 10.0 x64 (Ubuntu 10.10 derivative) and Windows 7 x64. Works without installing drivers and was very easy to set-up the mic sensitivity (under both operating systems). 5 stars - because it doesn't look like it's going fall apart after being touched! Very, very solid feeling and it's actually, genuinely, mostly constructed of metal!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I bought this Microphone in November 2010 to help me with start a podcast for my website, at GallowayNightSky. ItФЗЦs a good, well made microphone; I would recommend this Microphone to you. It has a great sound, but can pick up some background noise, however the price fits the product well, overall it is easy to use. It was easy to set up, with a number of different software available to use the microphone on. The ones I use are Audacity 1.3 Beta (Unicode) (free download), and Acoustica MP3 Audio Mixer to mix the sounds together It looks and feels the way a Microphone should be. USB microphone is supplied with an adequate metallic base unit and microphone stand, as well as a 3 metre USB lead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have recorded a weekly podcast with this microphone for almost a year now. It is very good quality and works seamlessly with my operating system. I record with a netbook running Ubuntu, and travel quite a bit and record on the go. I have never had any trouble. The mic is sensitive and picks up a good sound range. Only problem is it doesn't work well outside - wind causes distortion. You will need a wind sock of some kind. It is also very solidly constructed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bar none for the price. The sturdy metal construction was reassuring as soon as I opened the box. It worked straight out of the box under Win7 64, but as another reviewer noted you need to disable it as a playback device. The hardware volume (sensitivity) wheel is very handy. I'm using it positioned about 4' away, ?ў way between myself and the screen just behind the webcam and the quality is more than acceptable although not quite as solid as when 2'-3' away. It picks up ambient sounds well such as music from the speakers, but not so much as to drown out my voice. No real downsides that I can think of. Personally I would have preferred it without the bundled desktop stand to make it even cheaper. It's a quality stand but I already have one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I bought this Microphone about 3 weeks ago. Its a brilliant microphone, i use it to work on the radio so i do recommend this microphone if you are starting out at a radio station or reading news bulletins etc. The connector bit on the mic when i went to plug it in the other day fell inside my mic so i boxed it back up and had the unit replaced (i didnt have the recept but the shop was nice enough and they tracked me receipt and ordered me a brand new microphone,v good).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For the price there is no better option for recording vocals. This is not a professional quality microphone, but it does come very close and if compared to professional mic's would easily score 4 out of 5. Build quality: The unit is very sturdy and made largely of metal. It will certainly stand up to a lot of abuse. The mini USB connector on the base is a poor choice as it is a weak connector for repeated use. A USB type B (as found on printers) would have been a better choice. The integrated volume control is not particularly high quality, and I would not recommend adjusting it while recording. It creates a lot of noise. The mounting bracket is made of adequately thick plastic with brass mounting threads, which is more than acceptable. The included cable is off good quality and is properly shielded against EMI. The metal gauze covering the acoustic head is dense and will resist denting reasonable well if dropped or impacted, also having a sub-mesh behind with a smaller grade to stop large dust particles entering the unit. Audio quality: This microphone does not produce professional quality sound, but does produce exceptionaly good sound. It is crisp, clear, deep and high resolution, easily likened to that heard on digital radio. There is little internal noise, and little gain is required to resolve a good signal. The integrated volume control does not adjust the gain, only the signal. This means that for most applications it is better set to maximum to maximise the noise-to-signal ratio. It is quite sensitive to background noise, but if properly used this will not be a problem even in environments with ambient noise, since the internal noise generated by the microphone (which is still minimal) will overpower any environmental noise. The microphone is best used at close quarters (less than a metre away). Further away and it sounds predictably distant, but not to an unacceptable degree. Within 10cm it is easy to clip the signal with a loud voice or if not using a pop filter. Compatibility and ease of use: The microphone needs no drivers and works straight away as an external microphone in most computers. It has no XLR/TRS interface so is not well suited to a studio environment. It is very easy to use, since there is only one control (volume) on the unit, and produces a good signal requiring little gain from the computer. Practicality: The mounting bracket features an attempt at a rubber shock mount, which does do itself justice. It is no replacement for a good shock mount, but does minimise noise from the surface it is mounted on. The red power/activity LED is not very bright and as such not very useful. It does however with some difficulty provide a good indication of whether the device is off/on/live. This microphone is not well suited to windy/draughty environments as there is no wind screening material inside. It would need an external wind screen. Likewise, a pop shield is required. This microphone does not perform well when used end-on (it is distant sounding and not very responsive), and is best suited to being used side-on. This does however cause some polarity weighting on the output waveform (+ve weighted from reverse side, -ve from front side), but this has little effect on the audible signal. Overall, if used correctly this is a VERY good microphone. Probably not good for a studio environment, but it's only ?ъ40. And it's worth every penny. Even if the 'Made in China' stand did expect it to be called a Mikerophone...

I would like to use this microphone to record audio on a software called adobe audition for podcasts. Is this possible?

Asked by: Maisie b
Yes ... The microphone will appear on the computer as USB microphone input, as long as you tell the software to use that as the main recording device it should be fine.

How do I trim a recording? If I click the TRIM icon, a tick and cross appear. Whichever one I click on, it does not trim.

Asked by: Geoffers
that depends on the software you are using. This microphone is not provided with software so we cannot support you on this occasion.
