The Phantom FC40 is the beloved Phantom, all grown up. It comes with its own built in DJI designed smart camera with 720p/30 fps HD video support, and iOS or Android app control. Using a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection, it provides a full FPV experience at up to 100 m. It’s the ideal choice for those getting started with aerial cinematography.
A compact and highly integrated ready-to-fly drone that’s small enough to fit in a backpack.
More importantly, it features a new 5.8 GHz remote control which will not interfere with the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi when flying.
Mount the FC40 or other lightweight cameras on your Phantom to shoot your holidays from a whole new angle.
DJI FC40 App
This App enables you to remotely control the FC40 camera installed on DJI PHANTOM 1, including photo capturing, video recording, album management, etc.

DJI Phantom FC40
I got this as a present for Christmas and it's absolutely brilliant! The range of the quadcopter is amazing as is the FPV range and the video quality is fantastic. As other reviews have said, download the manual and update the software (I think that mine had the latest version installed anyway!). I haven't bothered updating the transmitter as yet and it flys perfectly! A few points to make that I've picked up through lots of research!
When updating the software on the quadcopter enable IOC (YouTube how to do it/what it does) as it will make it a lot easier to bring your quad back if you lose sight of it or what orientation it's pointing in (just remember to increase the altitude first if you can't see it or if there's obstructions in the way!). Watch lots and lots of YouTube videos (the Maplins one is very good btw and I paused it several times to check that I was assembling it correctly!) as you'll learn lots of useful info on setup, flight modes etc.
I learnt the basics of flying a quad with a Hubsan X4 H107 and if you can fly that then you'll have no problem flying the FC40 as it's so much easier!
Hope that this review has helped some people and if your sitting on the fence then buy one cos you won't be disappointed!
Limited upgrade path but still a great buy.
The FC40 is the ideal entry-level drone to give you aerial video. However, as soon as you want to upgrade, for example FPV ans rock-steady video, you'll find a limited amount of equipment due to the frequencies it uses. The 2.4GHz wi-fi is simple to view your aerial video in real time from the camera to your phone or tablet but this frequency is normally used for the control and the higher 5.8GHz is normally used for the video. So, in a nutshell, the FC40 uses the opposite frequencies than the newer phantoms. Fitting a video transmitter to get longer-distance reception is achievable but you've got to look for the 2.4GHz frequency rather than the 5.8GHz that fat shark and others use. Add a 2 or 3-axis gimbal, a go-pro and a video transmitter to the FC40 and you're looking at flight times of 4 minutes compared with 12 or so when flying 'bare'.
AMAZING PIECE OF KIT
this is a great piece of kit
I bought a brill carry case for it on that famous auction site. Seller was "s6eny" and has all varieties of cases & great value.
This is a fantastic drone. Extremely easy to fly & operate. What I would recommend is visiting the DJI website to download the latest software, firmware & instructions as there isn't much in the box other than the product. To upgrade the firmware on the phantom it's actually quite easy as the micro usb port is underneath but to upgrade the firmware of the controller you do have to open it up (4xscrews) to gain access to the micro usb port on the controller. There are plenty of forums & facebook owners groups where you can get a whole wealth of information on how to get the best out of the Phantom FC40. Check the rules in advance on where it is safe to fly as you need to take off/fly & land away from buildings & groups of people. I would also recommend upgrading the props to the Phantom 2 ones which are 9" & give it more stability & a little longer flight time. I have 3 batteries now as you will only get approx. 11-12 mins flight time per battery. Also for safety I would recommend buying the Phantom 2 prop guards if you have upgraded the props as this works with this model & for 9" blades. If you haven't upgraded the props then just get the normal phantom prop guards.
The phantom is a fantastic bit of kit, read the on line manual while the battery is charging and make a special note of what the flashing lights on the back of the phantom mean then find a nice open space and away you go. It really is easy to fly in GPS mode as long as the light on the back of the phantom is flashing a slow steady green which means it knows home location in case of signal loss or transmitter failure it will enable it to land safely on its own with out any input from the pilot, this has not happened so far. Buy one and have some fun you will not regret it.
This is an amazing drone to fly, very stable and super fast. Had to take my time going through the instructions though to get this going. Strongly recommend this, this is definitely not a toy.
It's the best
The 'Phantom' is phenomenal. It puts all the smaller ones ,I've purchased.over many months/ years even, into a distant past as they pale into insignificance. The picture quality is very impressive also. You can see the curvature of the Earth when you reach a respectable height. I frequently fly mine off the kitchen/ bathroom extension. One evening I lost sight of it and had it return home from a different direction to the way I'd been looking for it. One word sums it up overall, Brilliant!!!!!!.
So easy to fly even for a beginner. You will be so frustrated you did not buy an extra battery. Just remember to check out where you can fly it legally. Best thing I have bought in years and the aerial footage from the camera supplied and from myGoPro are fantastic
