Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect. Wanted this Dusk to Dawn Sensor Bulb for security, don't have to leave the light on 24 7 when on holiday anymore. This senses when it goes dark switches on and switches off when it's light. At first when u place it in the socket it will continually switch on and off for about 20 minutes, this is just getting the sensor ready, then it does the job perfectly, when u want to override it and use as a normal light you don't have to take it out the socket, it just knows and works perfectly. A great buy and well worth the money for what it is.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bought 2 bulbs from the lakeside thurrock store today 16/11/12 as a replacement for my blown Sylvania 11W ES E27 Energy Saving CFL Dusk to Dawn Night Sensor Light Bulb, instuctions on the bulbs that i bought stated that the sensor will take a few minutes to set itself to the outside light conditions then stay on, ( 2hours later still going off then on ) tryed both bulbs and same result, tryed a normal bulb with no sensor works fine.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This bulb has a design fault BUT if modified it works fine. I looked everywhere for a sensor bulb and decided to try this from maplin even though the reviews were mostly rubbish. The bulb is supposed to flash on and off a few times to set itself but that doesnt happen because when the bulb turns itself on, it sees its own light and thinks its daylight so turns itself off (I kid you not - this is true !!!) BUT if you trick the sensor it works fine. You need to fix a small piece of cardboard (with a zip tie) between the sensor and the bulb so that when the bulb turns itself on at night it cant see the bulb/light. Dont cover the sensor coz it needs to see daylight to turn off. Its a sort of L shape piece , short side fixed to bulb covering and long side sticking outwards infront of the sensor.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The bulb switches itself on when it gets dark (so far so good), the sensor then thinks oh it's bright it must be daytime and switches itself off again. This disco light show continues until you've had enough and replace it for a normal bulb. I bought 2 of these and both do exactly the same.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from These bulbs are rubbish, you would hope that a company would not produce a sensor bulb that switches its self off when it's just switched on thinking its got light again. Its like having a light house outside your front door.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Upon initial installation I experienced the same flashing on and off problems as described in many of the other reviews; however, by rotating the bulb I now solved the problem. I believe that if the sensor is facing a nearby surface the light reflected back tricks the bulb into thinking it is daylight and hence it switches off, the light level then drops and after a short period on comes the bulb again, and so the cycle continues. By rotating the bulb so that the sensor faces away from any nearby surfaces the reflection issue is eliminated and the bulb stays on (providing it is dark that is). The body of the bulb is able to rotate independently of base fitting thus facilitating adjustment but the instructions provided are poor and do not explain this clearly. I’m also not convinced that the bulb would work with all light fittings or in enclosed spaces as it may not be possible to prevent the sensor picking up reflections. Should you buy this bulb? Yes provided you understand the limitations and are willing to spend some time finding a position that works.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Avoid I have tried several of these bulbs. Some of them have worked well, but did not last more than a year. But I have just gone through about 4 bulbs in 2 months, each one mal-functioning within a week of installation.
