Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have tried a few of these before and have been disappointed with the results', but this was different. The construction is not super strong, but does the job. It has a rechargeable battery, but will operate from the power supply when the scanner is in operation. The controls are very straightforward and allow a small amount of photographic editing in the device. I have not loaded the software as I have photoshop, but the results were so good that they didn't need any further editing, apart from possibly some cropping, but that's just personal choice. If you have a stack of slides or negatives you have lost the original prints, or just need to archive your photographs, this is excellent, and is really quick. I would fully recommend .

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Perhaps I am missing something in the instructions, but I find the results slightly inferior to those obtained from digitized negative copies obtained from the shop where the film was developed. (An exercise carried out for comparison.) However, a useful aid for creating digital copies of my older negatives. I bought my A80LH when it was on a half price special offer and have to admit that if I had paid the full price I would have been rather disappointed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This film and slide scanner is very easy to use, but the aspect ration of the scans when transferred to the accompanying software is elongated in the horizontal plane. I have not had the time to try and correct this in software. If it is easy my rating would increase correspondingly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Some 'early days' comments based on a couple of hours using it on some old 35mm negatives and slides. More detail might come as I work it further... All of these film scanners are quite fiddly to use for bulk operations on negatives (you have to place each strip of negatives in a caddy before processing it) but once that is done reviewing and processing each strip was pleasingly quick: the image on the screen was displayed instantaneously and committing a scan to SD card takes only 2 or 3 seconds per image. Compared to my experiences with other, PC-dependent scanners this performance is brilliant. There's a useful review facility so you can check results and change brightness settings/rescan without resorting to a PC. Resultant JPG images from 35mm stock are 4416 x 2944 pixels - so about 13 megapixels. Usual problems encountered with dust/scratches (I can't blame the unit for that). I have suspicions that the images could be sharper and that they suffer from a lack of saturation but that might be unfair (I'm working from old films that may be fading and my camera focussing prowess may not have been as good as I like to remember). Anyway, I'd certainly recommend this unit as a relatively quick method for reviewing and capturing old films. I may yet resort to sending selected negatives/slides to a professional shop for cleaning and scanning/printing but the unit will give me a very good start in tackling a back catalogue of some 10,000 negatives/slides: to identify those images I want to restore to their former glories and give me some decent-enough images to send to friends and family.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would like to say how delighted I am with this product. In particular the excellent quality of the lens with no loss of sharpness so often happens with this type of product. The evenness of the illumination and high definition of the pictures especially in black and white was a surprise. The only down side is the rather confusing names of the buttons on the device. After delving deep into the supplied dvd I managed to find the instruction manual when all became clear.
