I got this for my birthday this year in feb and a day later I had to exchange it the first one was playing to slow and now October this one it seems the stop button has malfunctioned I pick the arm up and automatically it turns off. But having said that it is a good deck for the price (£79) when I bought it
I have to say that I am massively disappointed with this. I have not had the same software problems that some have had, I downloaded the software as required and run it with no issues on Windows 8. The problems begin when you start to play records. I am copying my huge collection of vinyl from my Dj'ing days so I have a very keen ear. This turntable can not hold its speed at all and fluctuates horribly causing your tracks to be so out of tune they are unbearable and more to the point, un-mixable in mp3 format. I will be taking this back for a refund, 1 day after purchasing and after trying to only copy 6 records, very dissappointed!
Addendum and further comments to my review of yesterday. I previously reported that the turntable was unstable in speed, with a random 'wow' effect. This appears to have stopped, after leaving it running for a couple of hours, so maybe it just needed 'running in'. Regarding audio distortion - I have finally eliminated this by several adjustments - first off - having set up and got audio on the computer, it had dreadful distortion rather like listening to two different radios at the same time down a long pipe.. I eventually solved this by the following 'flow-chart' - In Windows 7 - start button - control panel - sounds - recording - microphone - properties - then drag the slider almost all the way down to level 4. This just left the poor tracking - solved by the following - I increased the stylus tracking weight by one gramme, by sticking a sliver of lead to the flat just above and behind the cartridge, on the tone-arm, with a dot of silicone adhesive. This encouraged the stylus to follow any undulations and ripples on the lp, where before, it was left behind, hanging in mid-air at each dip. It also tamed down the screechy strings, and tightened up the woolly bass reproduction, so there must have been some inaudible resonance in the tone-arm. It also stopped the saxophone from sounding like someone was gargling in it, and gave it the brassy rasp it should have. So, although I stand by my previous comment that it is not a hifi turntable, I'd raise it to a mid-fi one. It is still not plug and play, unless that means play with all the levels and adjustments until it works properly. I will also raise it one star, now. I'd go half a star, to fairly good, but that option isn't available! One final comment on the EZ converter - it could do with a pause button, so you can skip duff tracks, or turn the lp over, but that is not a Maplin option.
Well - it's not a hifi deck! And it's not plug and play, eitherUsing easy vinyl converter, the supplied method, it took a lot of messing about in the computer sound settings, before I got rid of dreadful distortion. The initial sound was rather like listening to two radios at once, from the far end of a long drainpipe! You must follow the setting-up procedure laid out in the documents that come with the deck, to get anything at all out of the speakers. Then you get the audio distortion. Using Windows 7, I finally sorted it by going into (start button) - control panel - sounds - recording - microphone properties - then turn the level right down to 6. Now you should have decent reproduction - but - the tracking weight of the tone-arm is so light that if you have ripply-edged LP's (and who hasn't) the stylus skips and jumps like crazy, because there is so much 'sticktion' in the bearings. I solved that by sticking about half a gramme of lead onto the flat at the stylus end of the tone-arm. This leaves just one final problem - the turntable speed isn't quite stable. It doesn't have wow or flutter, that I noticed, but every now and then, randomly, the speed surges momentarily, so if you have a 'crooner' on the platter, it sounds as though someone has stuck a pin in their bum! Maybe I've got a 'monday morning' deck, and yours might work perfectly!
Good product. Keen price. Quick delivery.
I bought this some 3-4 years ago for a Windows XP computer but never installed it, I now have a Win 7 64 bit laptop, so downloaded the software very easy to locate on the web. Could not believe how simple it is to use. the EZ vinyl software is a doddle to use and although you can use audacity it is not really necessary unless you want to take out scratches etc.
Exchanged the more expensive version with the 'i' dock for this model. See seperate review. This turntble is also linkd to my Hi-Fi amp and replaces my previous 'standard' deck. It's early days, but the software loaded just fine. Followed the additional instructions concerning Windows Vista & 8 - This was idiot proof and wroked just fine also. Have started converting my vinyl to mp3 and then tranfering it into my i-tunes effortlesly so far... Couldn't be happier....
Bought this a couple of days ago and try as I might, I cannot get the software to run on Windows 8 without many problems such as "blank screens", "lack of recording" & "fails to transfer to iTunes".
This turntable is incredibly easy use. I received it well packed, with plenty of instructions on how to set up. I used it with a vista laptop and downloaded the latest driver from the ionaudio site. The only thing I needed to alter was the sound microphone settings to CD quality. Play back was really impressive considering the budget price.
Arrived very quickly after ordering. Had a few problems with export to itunes to start with, but seems to be ok now.Too soon to fully judge ,yet
