Why would I use this range extender?
The Linksys RE6500 dual band wireless range extender uses AC1200 Wi-Fi to provide a greater wireless radius with more consistent, stable speeds at range. This allows lag free wireless gaming or buffer free streaming of media to your portable devices. Cross-band wireless technology uses both the 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz bands to individually send or receive data packets, rather than one band doing both, this results in the faster transfer speeds.
The external antenna include beamforming technology, which focuses the wireless signal in the direction of the device connected to the range extender. This makes the Wi-Fi signal more robust, letting you connect to the range extender at greater distances.

What wired connections are available on this range extender?
The Linksys RE6500 access point comes with an integrated gigabit four port network switch, this allows the range extender to act as a wireless bridge to connect wired devices to a wireless network. This works great with media players, game consoles, smart televisions and other devices that support a network connection.
The access point also features a 3.5mm audio out port which allows you to connect a set of speakers or a stereo system. This allows you play music directly from connected smart devices and computers.

Is this range extender easy to set up?
The RE6500 is simple to install and configure for use, with Spot Finder technology you are able to optimally position your range extender. Using a portable device such as a smart phone or tablet, the Spot Finder app allows you to see the access points signal strength in relation to your main router. Documentation
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Device We recently moved house, some of the walls in the new home are over 2 feet thick and so WiFi was rubbish. We did not want to wire in a network so tried a few options. Powerline adaptors did not work at all and gave lots of problems. After a bit of online research I decided to try this model of extender. I thought it would extend coverage around the house a bit, but it extended it across the hole house and out into the garden. Where we previously had no detectable signal we now have 90% signal strength! The connection speed is not blistering but is still faster than our broadband connection (which we can watch HD TV over) so hopefully that's good enough. It could not have been easier to set up. Fantastic product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant Bought this because we only had one phone point in our house which was right at the very end of the house and the wifi signal didn't quite reach to the other end where our living room is (we live in a very long bungalow). Researched wifi boosters online and this one came out top. We weren't disappointed. It does exactly what it's supposed to. Was really easy to set-up and gives a great wifi signal. Highly recommend this to anyone.

I have a BT Home Hub 5. My goal to use this connected via the Hubs Gigabit port to create a new WiFi network for the home. Can this connect directly into one of the available connections in my HH5 and allow me to create a new WiFi network?

My broadband speed is only 5Mb and I use a BT Hub 4 using n wireless. Is it worth me buying a range extendert like this with AC1200 capability or would a 600 speed one be as good? I could get a newer BT hub 5 which is AC.

Asked by: steev
The routers are good but you will still only get the speed that the ISP can provide the line.
