this is the third time I have tried to post a comment. I noted this TV/DVD player at the local store and my friend purchased one. I could not find the product on the web site, only by product code.! The device works simply on mains or 12 volt without extra devices attached so ideal for my campervan. The aerial provided works inside the house and van with the TV transmitter's being 10 miles away. The picture is good but sound poor and headphones help with the unit. As reception poor on camp sites I use a satellite dish and the shop were helpful with ideas and advised fitted over a back seat saving space and holes in the vans roof. The instructions for the fitting and sockets useless if non existent. the hanger?? had a tight spring release which has now broken, but as I do not know its use not of concern yet. Appears good product but poorly advertised and poor instructions. ideal for the limited space in my van, but will have to use like a laptop as remote sensor on front of the base unit.
Not that good
Bought this for campervan trip around France . Sound is very quiet and tinny. Had to be within 1 foot of it to hear speaking. You also have to be looking exact right angle to see anything. So not comfy viewing or good for 2 people to watch. Despite the sound being so quiet they managed to make the DVD drive itself really noisy. The casing is cheap and clunky. Oh and yes, you can't play DVD without the remote, which is ridiculous as it's wafer thin and just fell down side of chair in campervan so I have to now unpack loads of stuff to find it just to play a DVD. Sorry maplin but this has not been a nice consumer experience for me
Purchased for hospital patient for the TV but even with more powerful aerial no connection. DVD works but was only purchased for TV. For me waste of money too late to get refund.
A good product overall
I bought the product at Easter. It works well as a DVD player, but the supplied aerial is a no-no in my part of the country--once connected to the home TV aerial it auto tuned very quickly and easily, but even once tuned, the supplied aerial is still a non-starter--where I live. I have connected to the TV at home with the HDMI--this will show the DTV, but have not yet got the DVD to work via the HDMI on my home TV--not sure if this is because I have not yet found the right setting--I have emailed Maplin--hope to have a reply sooner--rather than later.
The feel is bulky and plasticky. The aerial supplied is a joke, as with most similar devices. That said, the unit does play most DVDs (not all of my own recordings on DVD-RW) and (with a decent aerial) tunes in TV. Picture is OK. I was specially disappointed to find that you can't play DVDs without using the remote control. There are buttons on the unit for play, stop, forward, reverse, volume etc but no "OK" button to allow you to get off the DVD menu and start playing a track. I suppose at least that it means you're less likely to lose the remote. The internal speakers are very tinny, but sound is OK on headphones. There seem to be lots of other functions but I haven't tried them. So overall it does the job but quality and design are unconvincing. Don't know how long it will last, especially the DVD drive.

Whats in the box & what battery & PSU does it use?
Hi, although the description tells me it has built in speakers so there is no need to carry headphones, what if I want to? Does it have a headphone socket so that the product can be used with headphones so as to not disturb other people around me?
