Product details

Maplin M220 720p Dash Cam

• 720p resolution for a HD recording of all events on the road
• 120-degree viewing angle to capture a wide view of events on the road
• 2.3-inch built-in monitor to allow you to play back recordings without requiring additional equipment
• A built-in G-sensor to record sudden course changes or impacts and save any event onto the memory card in the event of a crash
• Night time events can be recorded if there is sufficient artificial light present from the car and street lighting
• Built-in battery allows recording to continue for several minutes after the engine cuts out
• Records directly onto a class 10 microSD memory card, up to 32GB in size (not included)
• 30 frames per second recording rate
• Screen blackout while recording to prevent distraction to the driver
• Parking mode with a vibration sensor allows the dash cam to record events even when the vehicle is empty

Why should I buy this dash cam?
The Maplin M220 dash cam is an excellent choice for recording events on the road in 720p HD quality to help reduce insurance quotes and assist with making a claim. With sufficient lighting, you’ll also get great quality recordings when driving at night. You can watch recordings back on the 2.3 inch built-in screen to review any events that have happened. The built-in G-sensor will allow the dash cam to record any impacts or sudden course changes so that the event is protected on the memory card. The G-sensor’s parking mode will allow the dash cam to record events even when the vehicle is empty with the built-in vibration sensor. A date and time stamp is also included on the recording to prevent any dispute.

How do I use this dash cam?
The dash cam uses a class 10 micro SD card, between 2GB and 32GB (not included), to record any event on the road. A 32GB memory card will give you approximately three hours recording time. When the memory card becomes full, an auto loop function will allow the dash cam to begin recording over existing video files in chronological order. Once the memory card is installed, the dash cam can be suction mounted directly onto the windscreen and is powered by a built-in battery or the in-car power supply. The dash cam will then automatically turn on and start recording when the engine is started.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good little camera Very good easy installation play back quality on PC is excellent. Can't understand review stating it does not automatically wipe files down as mine seems to ok easy to install and the windscreen suction pad actually holds it firm which makes a pleasant change with such products good basic recording features just leave it running and it does the job

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Basic but good Had this as a Christmas pressie and have fitted it already. Doesn't have WiFi or other 1080p definition but is still HD and is just lovely and simple. The clips loop well and play on the PC. You only want to see it work when you have an incident you need to look at.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great budget camera Bought this yesterday as other retailer had sold out of identical nextbase camera. Quick and easy to install and foolproof to use. Set up in literally 5 minutes. Ignore other reviews on here, I bought a class 10 ultra high speed memory card on sale at a popular high street pharmacy ;-) and have had no problems having to format or file corruption. 10/10. Thanks Maplin!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Could be improved quite a bit I bought this unit about four weeks ago, and although it seems to preform well enough, and is easy to programme, I was disappointed to find that when the recording time was up a panel came on the screen telling me that the Disk was full. I then had to remove the camera from it's mount and manually Format the card (which cleaned everything off it) and replace it for another three hours run.(or change the card with a new one) not easy on a French motorway in the dark. My windscreen had been smashed by a large rock, and I wanted the shot for the insurance company. According to the description (obviously incorrect) the unit is supposed to be on a loop where it will start to record over previous recordings once the disk was full, so the whole thing should be automatic. Also, if you download the recording of the whole disk on to the computer, it is in seperate 5 minute thumbnail clips, but the clips all have the same number, so if you find a clip with an event on it you wish to retain, you have to be very careful to make sure you have the right clip before pressing Save. If you do have an 'event' and want to be able to recover the right clip later, make sure that you make a careful note of the time of the event when it happens (if you can be that cool under stress ) as the clips are time related. (you have to open one first to see the time imprint). I bought this one as a 'starter' but I think I will soon buy a better one now that I have had some experience.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Unobtrusive save you time & money get a better model. Returning mine as it will record perfectly but on playback the first 20 files are fine, all the others have corrupted files and unplayable. Even after transfering to a PC still wont play. Spend a little but more and get a better model

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My First Dashcam It does everything i expect and more. It's one of those products that you hope you won't need but it's there when you do. The small size means that it fits unobtrusively behind the rear view mirror without obscuring the windscreen. Inexpensive price.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from would not work Purchased online at offer price. Plugged in , worked initially for a few seconds then went blank. Noticed if power lead was wriggled around ,power would restore. Took kit to my local Maplin store, they tested it on the bench and supplied a replacement. Returned home and plugged in again, sadly the 2nd unit powered up o.k.but the screen remained backlit but nothing else. Tried a reset , tried re-installing but to no avail. Returned to the store , unit tested and fault confirmed. After discussions with the store manager, I opted for a more expensive Nextbase 212 unit. I am pleased to say this unit is amazing , particularly the playback quality on my desktop and the sound quality. The store manager assured me that they had had no issues with other Maplin M220 units , so I guess I was just unlucky. Have to say that the customer care at the Milton Keynes store is first class.

My question is: Is the AV output from the camera functional, or is it just a hole ? If it does work, how do I access it ? The MENU allows setting to PAL or NTSC.

Asked by: Andrew
Although this item has an AV port it is unused this will not work.

It's acemusic again with the same problem. Using the AV output from this dashcam. Helpful staff at Maidstone say I need a 4 pole TRRS 2.5mm plug - the TRS 2.5 mm lead I made did not work. Where can I find a 2.5 TRRS plug, or better a pre-wired AV lead?

Although this item has an AV port it is unused this will not work, sorry for any previous incorrect information I will get this updated.

The helpful staff at the Chatham branch suggested the the AVout hole on the camera i have just purchased would accomodate a 2.5mm TRS jack plug, although it doesn't fit neatly, and I made a jack to two phono adapter for the purpose. Any other suggestions?

On this occasion Maplin do not stock a product that exactly meets your requirements, or indeed anything close enough to offer you as an alternative.
