Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works fine with Windows 7 Home and Media Centre. Was looking for a cheap remote for a windows media centre so bought this and have been v pleased. Plug in the USB receiver, place the receiver under he TV, and it works out of the box. Range is at least 3m, and the 'mouse' facility has meant I needn't buy a keyboard & trackball. Has had heavy use for 2 months and still on same set of Energizer AAA batteries. Build quality is fine too. Unlike some media centre remotes there are enough buttons for all the weird little functions like subtitles on & off, close, clear, enter and back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Remote Control for MCE Computers I bought this to replace a remote that was playing up on an ASRock Media Centre computer running Windows 7. This remote is much better quality that the original equipment, and has lots of extra, useful buttons. The mouse trackpad and right and left click buttons are great, as I now no longer need to connect a mouse to close windows, launch a browser, dismiss system messages, etc. When I first tried it, this remote did not work with the computer's built-in IR receiver. However, once I connected the IR receiver that comes with this remote, it worked instantly with no drivers and no configuration. Brilliant! It is much more responsive than the original remote. Highly recommended. Faultless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm using this device on a Lenovo Q180 with OpenElec + XBMC and it works perfectly straight out of the box without the need to install drivers or customisation. The infrared to USB adapter is on length of a wire, so can be positioned according to your needs thus avoiding the use of the front USB on the Lenovo. And finally, the staff at the Kingston upon Thames shop were very helpful as usual ;-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FYI: i used the dongle that comes with this remote on XBMCbuntu / ubuntu and works out of the box. And i then used it with my harmony remote, programming the device as: Ortek VRC-1100.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought this remote yesterday and it works great. No drivers needed. Best PC remote I ever had , Works with GOM media player and Windows media centre as well as being able to control cursor on screen. I would recommend this remote to everyone .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't fault it Cheap and effective. Works straight out of the box on HTPC running win7 and Media Centre. Shortcuts for starting a browser, closing a window, getting to music, TV, recorded TV and photos are very handy and the "mouse pad" controller is an added bonus. It is built down to a price and does feel it, if there was a more expensive, higher quality material version then I'd buy that in preference, but this is 5 out of 5 for the price.

I use a Windows 8 laptop for MS-Office 2010 Powerpoint presentations. Can the Media Centre Remote be used to control these and does it have a 'pointer' light to highlight items on the wall screen?

Asked by: Alan
This pointer is for use with a media centre PC and does not have a LASER pointer built in... it's not really suitable. The following item http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/logitech-r400-laser-presenter-n17jk Will do both of the functions you require, it allows you to control powerpoint presentations, and has a built in laser pointer.

Can this remote be programmed to turn the TV on and off?
Asked by: Anonymous
The item would be able to do this, but it would be TV dependant as well.

For reference, I can confirm this remote works out-of-the-box (no drivers needed) on Windows 7. It also works fine with PowerDVD 8 and XBMC with no setup needed.
