Rated 4 out of 5 by from Truly value for money. What was not mentioned but hoped for was support for USB HDD's and so long as they were formatted in FAT32 they work a treat. There are a couple of minor downsides, though those you can work around, only 2 folders depth are recognised and for some unknown reason the display sorts the top level folders Z-A, but the files in second level folders are then, mostly, sorted A-Z. Have yet to find a suitable workaround to this. I have yet to try partioned drives and more then 999 files on the disk or partion. I am just reformatting the drive now. But all things considered, brilliant little gadget.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disapointed. It claims to be able to play many disc types. However it will not play shop bought dvds! First disc was Mary Poppins, just kept showing disc error. Then tried Toy story 3, same result (these are both new dvds which play in the cheaper player sold here) Although this is the first time that we have tried to use this, I have had it for over a year now so no warrenty. I would recommend the cheaper one that Maplin sells, and give this one a miss. moderator note: the unit does indeed play formats listed correctly and does of course play shop bought DVDs, if playback issues are experienced then it is likely to be a faulty unit rather than an inherent playback issue.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I bought a B-Grade one of these for the price it's pretty good. It's much smaller than most DVD players (which are always as wide as a traditional VHS recorder, what's that all about?) and the case is solid metal. It plays Div-X movies off of DVDs, Memory sticks and SD cards just fine and DVDs as well, seemingly doing a good job of upscaling (the DVD's look great on my 720p TV anyway). On the downside, you can see where the manufacturer saved money. The finish of the front panel and its buttons are cheap and nasty and the remote is incomprehensibly laid out with rows of identical buttons. The DVD tray itself is the flimsiest of its kind I have EVER seen, don't ever try pushing it back in by hand! For the money it does the job and its compact size is a plus, but I might still buy a bigger better brand DVD/AV player for the main TV.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from You can use large a external HDD with this player provided it is formatted to Fat32. You can't do this easily in Windows. If you are familiar with the command box use the command - Format /fs:fat32 (drive letter): EG - Format /fs:fat32 d: - TAKE CARE - You don't wan't to format your main hard drive. The format takes a long long time - Basically best done overnight. Or search for one of the many free formatting utilities on the web.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought one of these a year ago and it has been the best value for money out of all the other products I've bought. Fantastic! No more burning cd's just shove in a usb stick and away you go! Brilliant piece of kit!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little player, works equally well in USA on 110 volt/60hz supply, plays back UK region discs, also PC-recorded and UK PAL DVD recorder self-made DVD-R discs in US by HDMI cable on USA televisions. Best solution yet to taking UK-recorded video to play effortlessly in the USA. Just waiting for Maplin's next price promotion to order a second one !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from super piece of equipment. Does all that it says on the box and possibly more. I brought it for the fact it had a usb connection and hoped that it would play my avi files on my external hard drive. The hard drive was a terabyte and it read it in no time at all and played all the files i wanted it to. I give it a 5 star rating for looks and performance. I had delivery in 2 days and am more than pleased with the maplin service

Hi. I recently bought a TV that was advertised as having a USB port, so that I could stream web content using Chromecast. Unfortunately, it does not in fact have a USB port. Will this DVD player's USB port do as a work around?

Will this player run off a 12 volt battery? It's for my husbands converted van. If not could you help me track one down that would be suitable? Thanks.
Asked by: Anonymous
I’m afraid not , it would require a 12v power supply , or use an invertor like this : http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/maplin-12v-pure-sinewave-150w-inverter-a71jw
