Product details

MK120 IR Beam Break Detector

Create an infra red ‘virtual barrier’ with this interesting minikit. The transmitter emits a beam of infra red light which is picked up by the matching receiver. If the beam is broken (i.e. by someone walking through it) the receiver sounds an alarm and illuminates an LED. Ideal for indoor security or visitor annunciation applications. Specifications: PP3 Battery holder and power socket included.

  • Ir beam kit

I got one of these kits and assembled it and the pads came off with very minimal effort. It Ended up in my " I will never use it "cupboard . :(

  • i would definitely agree with the other 1-star reviewer as the instructions where difficult to comprehend meaning i had to take about 5 resistors off one board and when i tried to solder the correct resistors onto the board, about half of the copper pads came off! Maplin is my favourite shop but to be honest,i think i have been let down on this one.

  • I bought this kit, I wish I hadn't! I attempted to assemble it but found the copper track came away from the board as soon as any heat was applied to it. I was unable to assemble the kit for the track falling off the board and leaving components floating and flopping around, the instructions are poor and somewhat misleading. I gave it my best and I've assembled other similar kits with no trouble before; but this kit ended up in the bin, I wouldn't recommend this kit to anyone, poor quality tracking that comes away from the board easily.

  • I found the kit ideal for modification into an infared camera shutter release for wild life photography. The modification was a simple, I just substituted the buzzer in the kit for a maplin relay (code n16aw) and conected a 3.5 jack (so as to plug the shutter cable on my 7d into) to the gate on the pin. now I am taking great pictures as wild life trips the beam.
