Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is lighter thatn a laptop and better than a netbook in that it has 2Gb of memory. However when my B grade arrived it needed some self assembly. It had obviously been used as it had some residual software on it which I thought should have been removed. It works well but the battery is certainly not good for 3-4 hours as suggested. I will buy an 8 cell battery for it somewhere. Having said all that it is superb value for money.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent, surprisingly slim laptop for general office type use. Performance is OK, but a bit leisurely. Bought the bigger battery as the standard slim one looks pretty but soon runs out of steam. One thing to check. The letters and numbers are off-white on a dark grey background and very difficult to read in poor light, so not good if i want to work when the missus is watching the TV. I'd hoped that they were backlit, but if they are, will someone please tell me how to switch it on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A surprisingly light and very versatile notebook. I would have liked a more user friendly manual instead of having to use another computer to run the CD.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This comes with windows premium32bit but no cd/dvd disk of it. First of all, if you buy this notebook, immediately ensure you own a 8gb or greater usb flash key or usb hdd (or esata hdd) to back up the OS using the installed software in case the hdd ever fails one day. The hdd isnt unreliable, but seeing how the only other option is to backup to the included 120gb partition (part of the 320gb) using the in built software, there is not optical drive such as dvd rw, then a usb key is the only safe thing in such a situation. You could of course plug in a usb dvdrw and also watch dvd films as a bonus. I have inserted a 8gb class 6 SD-HC card to enable ready boost because the laptop hdd is something like a standard 5400rpm and therefore slower than desktops. I must try to be objective about this notebook because I won it and so clearly I'm in a win win situation. It the price, it is a fair price mainly due to the screen resolution and amd ati graphics and the 320gig hdd. The graphics is best for google earth if you enable direct 3D or openGL. Also good for 3D web browsing flash sites such as papervision. Considering it runs windows7, there aren'r many games that the cpu can handle even though the graphics are about as good as a directx 9 card. So Doom3 or penumbra are okay. essentially, to play games, look for older budget titles compatible with vista such as san andreas gta3. However, games like mafia are less likely to run. Graphics aside, it has a 1.6ghz 64bit cpu which is great for most web browsing including youtube and iplayer, both in standard definition. But if you want to play HD video online (suc as 720p bbc iplayer), then it really doesnt do the job. I tried. You'd get about 10 frames per second at best it seems. You'd need a laptop with dual core 1.6ghz or higher for that. For a little more you can get a laptop that does that as long as you are prepared to install your own os. Memory wise, to upgrade the single SODIMM PC6400 RAM from 2GB, you'd need to throw away the included RAM and replace it with a 4GB chip because there are no additional slots. The webcam is acceptable although realistically video is only best in 480p and even so, that is very compressed and blocky. However, for photo's in higher resolution, it is fairly good quality. Certainly acceptable and a useful way to use the screen as a mirror video. One thing rather annoying is the inclusion of bluetooth software without a bluetooth dongle. It does work with bluetooth dongles mind you. The fan in the laptop is vulnerable to making noise if fluff gets in there but saying that, all laptops can suffer this. Ok, so I have been meaning to add that this laptop works great with the easy peasy 64bit standard desktop install of ubuntu 11.4 using wubi.exe (search online). The laptop is very light, has no dead pixels and the battery is pretty terrible. But I still like this little machine. Great for older games like far cry and half life 2. As it is very light, I see this machine being best used for those people who wish to take it to work each day and plug into the mains to do web browsing or maybe some light photo editing with its fairly hi resolution screen. I have done vidoe editing on it with windows movie maker and it is fine of you just want to upload youtube videos or equivalent short clips but entire movies length video took days. Mind you, plugging in a esata hdd would surely make a big difference there. hmm what else? It has standard tinny notebook speakers but you can always use headphones if listening to music. Speaking of outputs, it has a vga output but not dvi. It does has hdmi mind you, although think about what definition you want to achieve. It has gigabit lan and N wifi activated using the Fn key near the spacebar and F10 together. Oh and it also boots from network if you are a tech-head how wants to turn this into a thin client in future. That's about it. the screen folds back not a full 180degrees but more like 160 as per usual with laptops. 4sta...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I purchased a MSI X410 Notebook from Maplins 2 years ago and it has travelled with me offshore and around the world all this time and has never missed a beat. On 22nd of October I was involved in a ditching of a Helicopter on my way to the Oil Rig. My trusty Notebook was with me on this flight as normal in my rig bag in the hold of the helicopter. We ditched in the water at 3:30 pm and Helicopter and bag were in the water from then until roughly Tuesday so in the water for at least 24 hours. It was then left in the wet bag until 31st October when I received my gear back. I removed the Notebook from the bag and wiped it down fitted the battery back in and powered up. I would like to say I was surprised when the Notebook powered up completely and is working perfectly including all usb ports, speakers and camera. I would say that I am very impressed with this Notebook as other laptops and electronics on-board the Helicopter owned by other crew failed to work after similar treatment. Definitely one of my best buys.
