The outdoor thermo-hygro sensors is the main data communication unit since both the wind and rain sensors are connected to the thermo-hygro sensor for operating power and rely on it to communicate to the base station. • SUPERB!

A brilliant bit of kit, and at £29.99 and with free delivery from Maplin a steal! I have the instruments set up on top of a hill OVER ONE HUNDRED METERS AWAY and, with a clear line-of-sight between the instruments on the hilltop and base station on the windowsill it works perfectly! It has already withstood a pretty good battering (they are mounted four-foot high pole secured with four wire 'guys', with the rain gauge lower down on a separate smaller post around one foot off the ground). Up here in the Northwest Highlands I am sure it will be well tested! Had thought about the next model up for PC connectivity and wind direction as well as speed but decided to spend less because I was not sure about the range capabilities. Now that I know how well these stations work I would not hesitate to recommend every single one of them! I look forward to upgrading already but am very pleased with this one too!

  • Great Gadget

Bought mine 2010 and found it was very easy to install and setup. The transmitter range is good, I have mine about 40 feet from the receiver and have no problems. Apart from battery changes I have had no problems with this unit. Fantastic unit for the price.

  • Professional Wireless Weather Centre

Hi, While I had been looking at weather stations for some time, I purchased this one while it was on sale at an in store visit that I made for some other items. My first comment is that the outdoor sensor mounting system is not good. Two very large Jubilee Clips is all that is provided. Next comment is that wind direction is not indicated. This is not advertised on the box anyway - but as a professional system I would have expected it. Then I went to install the sensor system. For a cluttered environment the best place to put it would be on the end of the ridge of my roof. To do this, I could need to use a cranked aerial pole from my local DIY store, and then clamp the supplied pole to this with the Jubilee Clips. Then I realized that I would not be able to replace the sensor batteries without putting myself at considerable risk. It would be good if the sensor system had an external battery input with a 20 metre lead to a ground level battery box / mains power unit. No need then to get at the sensor installation. I think I miss read the Sale display in Store, that I thought said USB. It might well be USB between the sensor components but the display unit does not have USB connection for a computer. One published question reply for this unit, does indicate that a computer connection is NOT available. I would pay up to £20 for a separate computer connected device that receives the same data. Now for the positive comments: I have been using it for some weeks in a partially sheltered location. It is at ground level with the pole stuck in a patio table pole very close to my house - not at all an ideal location. It seems to be very good (and good value for money) for the things it is currently detecting. I note from other comments, that the availability of spare parts is also very good - and that Maplin are good at replacing parts that have failed.

  • Good price

I have bought this as a present for my husband and as a replacement for our radio weather station (radio link patchy in our area) and he really loves it. IN SUMMARY: BAD things: - The two-part pool is way to short 0.5m (but you can always extend it or tie it to other structure), - the temperature reading is not accurate but only by max. of one degree (so not really such a big deal), - controls not intuitive to find advanced functions (you have to read the manual). GOOD things: - really good quality plastic (we live on the seafront and due to high winds this station fell down from hight of circa 5m on grass and bounced on the pavement with no damage! Not even a scratch!) - many functions to see the reading's history, - the price for this basic weather station is really good, - easy to assemble and quick to set up. I would really recommend this basic weather station as anything similar I was looking to buy on Internet and eBay was twice or three times the price of this one.

  • Great for the price

for anyone who knows how to use meteorological equipment this is pretty good. The 2 ft long pole can be attached to a post / pole to get the desired accuracy for the anemometer (7ft+) the long wires allows the rain bucket to be located on the ground to avoid under-reading from wind exposure. The temperature sensor can be placed at 1.4m above the ground, and in a superior radiation shield for better accuracy if required (all thermometers over-read without radiation protection). The console part displays a lot of useful info like wind chill, dew point, and times max and mins were recorded

  • Not happy

Unfortunately the mechanical set up was awful. The jubilee clips were much too big and there was too much excess cable. The assembly instructions appear to be for an earlier, better, model. The pole assembly does not look anything like the picture. It looks a mess but it works OK.

  • Best weather station I've ever owned and used, really easy to set up and very accurate, good battery life and the wireless transmitter doesn't interfere with my other wireless devises . Brilliant price and really good value for money. Also very good that spare parts are easy to find. Had mine over 16 mths and has proved to be a really useful addition to my home.

  • Was given one as Christmas present. Within months the anemometer seized which was replaced FOC. Now the base station cannot receive data - have changed all batteries and gone through the start up sequence many times but no go. Transmitter seems dead.

  • I bought this for my Dad Christmas 2012 - he's been using it now for 7 months and is really happy with it. He's been through many weather stations before this one and this is by far the best - he's now buying one for his brother. The outdoor equipment has lasted through storms and a harsh and long winter. Highly recommend.

Can you change the frequency of the transmitter? I have one of these units and it works fine at my home in Bracknell but at my mobile home in Weymouth the outside sensor doesn't register most of the time and when it does register it stops after a short time. I think there is interference of some form.

No the product does not support this.

There is an internal 3.3V regulator in the base unit which means this unit is not suitable for rechargable batteries. They would only supply 3.6 volts max, and soon fall below the 3.3v+ required.

Many thanks for the feedback, Paul.
