First you open the box and get to work assembling the kit.
To assemble the kit you'll need a screwdriver, a pair of wire cutters and some needle nose pliers. The instructions are clear to follow and assembling the arm should take 1-2 hours.
Once built, you can connect it to your PC (or Raspberry Pi) and program it to perform all sorts of robotic movements. The simplest method to controlling the arm is pretty straight forward - once you've got the software installed on your PC, you just point at the part of the arm (on screen) that you want to affect and click. You also have the option to program a series of movements.

Brilliant exactly what I wanted!!! It's great
Overall it was good for the money but failed ona few important things. First of all the programming mode was timed for each step and like someone already said it failed most tasks when the program was run. Also the whole programming is never going to work because there is no default reset which sets the arm in a start position where you can always start. Serious downfall, as I did buy it to teach young kids how to start basic programming, a bit of a let down for them when their program they worked on never works.
This is the best arm design i have seenso far!..it contains software to operate which makes its handling very easy
Firstly, this does work in Windows 7, the CD supplied does have all the drivers. I've run it on Windows 7 64-bit. Additionally you can use this with Raspberry pi and any other Linux, you can find loads of information via google. Good fun too build, easy.
Well made product, build instructions could be better.
Great fun, my daughters put it all together and we used python on a Linux laptop to control it using tips we found here http://python-poly.blogspot.co.uk/ There is a GUI with buttons to control it all, and they have been using it to learn python scripting to get it to do sequences of moves. It has motors rather than servos so it can't do precisely repetitive movements, it is just a toy, but a good one. Really pleased that there is basically nothing to say this is a "boys toy" on the packaging or instructions or in store. The girls just picked it out as the most awesome kit on display.
I found the Robotic Arm easy to put together as long as you follow the instructions carefully. The arm will run on 2 rechargeable 'D' cells if they are installed in the left hand side of the battery box. Tracing the red wire from the right hand battery terminal terminates in a solder pad with no tracks to it. Good fun to play with but the software supplied is very basic. There are a few articles on the web using a Raspberry Pi to drive this arm. Pity the battery box wasn't designed so the batteries could be changed without having to unscrew the top off the box as the usb lead has to be pushed to one side to gain access to one of the screws. I think that one of the wires will eventually fracture here as the socket on the end of the USB lead has been changed to a Moles type and a dab of silicon rubber applied to where the wires enter the socket. I have attached a small box to the rear of the battery box containing a battery charging circuit board from Velleman and incorporated a change-over switch to isolate the arm while the batteries are on charge.
This was purchsed as a present for grand son and he is delighted!
I received this robot arm some time ago and have just assembled it. I works well although its control software is simple. Value for money.
Good product, I had no issues building it, works fine. Note the interface software only work on Windows though.
