Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is such a fantastic device i felt i had to write a review of it. First of all delivery was within a few days. I chose to have it delivered to my local maplin store which is a great service as i do not have to hang around waiting for it to arrive, just pick it up when you receive the email from Maplin. Simple. Back to the device. I have a smile on my face as i write this as I'm using it to stream a cd to my android device. No need to bother with ripping a cd and having to connect to your pc. No need to worry about storage. Very easy to set up, just download the app, put the password into your wireless list and it's virtually plug and play. I have not needed to change any settings or do a firmware upgrade, it just works and sounds fantastic. So many good things to say about this i could go on and on. Great product. Recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I want to put an end to the poor reviews of this product. For your average user who wants to use this to play video DVDs or audio CDs to their ipad/iphone/android device then this product is amazing. I think most would agree that a lack of optical disk drives on tablets is the one thing that let's them down, well this device fills that gap. Setup, a little tricky as the paper manual and online instructions are useless so I'll help. How I set it up from out of the box. Connect the smart hub to a LAN port on your wifi router that's provided by your internet supplier using a cat 5 or LAN cable (not supplied). On a laptop/PC connect your wifi to your router as you would normally for surfing the net. Do not try and directly link your computer to the smart hub directly by wireless or LAN cable. It has to be done through a router. And then run the supplied dvd. Unless you really know what your doing then just keep clicking 'next'. When it reaches iscsi setup up you can cancel the setup as that's not necessary. Then just connect your phone or tablet to it under wifi settings, input the password (on the sticker under the drive) run the samsung app (dload from App Store) and job done. Hope this helps.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I recently bought one of these having read about the smart hub and thinking it sounded a good idea that still needs some polishing. This is definitely a work in progress and the documentation, install disc and support leave a lot to be desired. However, all is not lost and many of the reviewers seem to have missed a significant point, especially important to Linux and OSX users - the device has a web front end server embedded. If you look on the underside of the device there is an SSID and WPA key, enter these into your computer/tablet/phone, connect via wifi and use your browser to connect to the router IP address. Login and configure to your hearts content, not forgetting to change the login password. Now have it streaming DVDs to my ipad with some buffering and further testing is required. Connecting it to a home network and changing the subnetting and network config is next on the list. This device shows promise, hopefully Samsung will support it and update it via firmware to deliver what could be a marvelous media hub. In light of this I'm giving it 3 stars.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I bought this Smart Hub for the purpose of streaming Region 2 DVD films to Apple devices (iPod Touch and an iPad). This is achieved quite well despite the woefully poor documentation. The quick guide is virtually useless, Samsung's own website is dire however the way to implement the device is to search for different reviews/comments from the Web. I discovered how to update the firmware to latest version from Samsung websiite (using USB stick). The smart hub needs to be connected by a network cable to your wireless router. The smart hub apps need to be installed on the Apple devices via Apple store/iTunes. The hub will broadcast its own wifi network signal to which the Apple devices connect. In effect the Smart Hub acts as a wireless access point for your own broadband router. If you disconnect the Smart Hub from your network then the streaming capability stops. In summary, it isn't out of the box plug and play. It isn't Smart and it isn't easy to set up, but once the limitations are understood - it actually works quite well subject to the usual wifi limitations - speed, signal strength, range etc. Good for what it is but could have been a decent well designed and implemented product. If you don't do the online research expect to be frustrated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just wanted to add a quick note. There is a review by "Barry" that is totally untrue and might put others off buying this excellent little product. Basically the DVD drive creates its own wireless network. So by itself you can connect multiple devices to it wirelessly. They will see the drive and each other. The drive has an ethernet port on the back. Connect this to your home router and this will allow the devices connected to your DVD wireless network access to the internet. Note, you're not on your home network, you're on the wireless network created by the DVD player, but while the DVD player is connected to your home network you have access to your home network plus the internet. Plug the drive into your computer (no power needed, just USB) and you have a DVD reader/writer. The maplin specifications are not actually correct. The maximum users you can stream a DVD too are 1. One user can wirelessly access use and watch a DVD. However, if you plug in a USB drive into the back with your movies on, multiple users can stream the same of different movies. This is very handy as you can load a USB drive with movies and this DVD player will turn it into a wireless multimedia player. All in all, at the price for a portable DVD writer, DVD player, USB streaming, network creating device is awesome! Oh, and if you fill a DVD or CD with movies, music or pictures, you can plug this into the USB port on your smart TV and view the contents (not DVD movies, but content you have put on a DVD yourself in say AVI format).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bargain Optical Drive and Media Streamer in One! Picked one up today from Peterborough Store, was looking for an External Drive for OTG. At the offer price this device was by far the best option, combining an Optical Drive and a Media Streamer for IOS and Android. An easy 10 minute set-up, I found it quicker to ignore the questionable English Translated instructions, and a download of 'Mobile Smart Hub' on my Android Tablet . What more could You ask? it works perfectly!! Watch DVD Movies in amazingly High-Quality, with Full-Disc-Menu Access. The App also allows Aspect Ratio selection, extremely handy if viewing on 3 x 4 Screen. Perfect for home-use due to mains power requirement and the slightly larger dimensions compared to that of a standard portable drive. What's not mentioned are the box contents: Drive, Mains Adapter for UK and Europe, Twin USB/Power Cable for OTG, Install Disc and Instructions. A Highly recommended product and a perfect solution for those who still want to play DVDs, without conversion, on Mobile devices. There is of course USB connectivity for AV playback from Memory Sticks etc. Can't fault it, ...does exactly what it says on the box!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This looked like an intersting device, and at half price, was worth buying to see what it did. Delivery was very quick. Having bought it, I'm still not sure. At it's simplest it will provide a DVD, Video and Audio player when linked to a tablet via WiFi. I tried using it as a DVD player for my Android tablet, and it worked, although I was told the Region was wrong and I would only be allowed to use it 5 times. I upgraded the Firmware to the latest European version, and I think this problem has gone away. One web site I looked at showed it being used as an in car entertainment hub, which could be useful, but it does not come with a lead to connect to a car cigar lighter. Beyond that I'm not sure. The online setup instructions are pretty vague. If plugged into a Wide Area Network it seems to add a Wi Fi capabilty for those needing it. Like most people I already have a WiFi DSL modem router for internet connection, so it isn't obvious where this Smart Hub fits in, or what will happen if I connect it to a LAN port on my router. I will proceed carefully.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ace! My laptop's cd/dvd drive died and was looking to buy a replacement and I saw this - it's a writer, player and media streaming device all in one! What's not to like?
