Product details

Signal Strength Meter

A square-faced signal strength meter which may be back-lit to show up a green scale. Scale is marked ‘Signal’ and 0 to 5 for calibration.
Specifications
Sensitivity: 250µA FSD ±10%
Internal resistance: 650Ω ±5%
Insulation Resistance 50MΩ or more @ 500VDC (1min)
Dimensions: 40 x 40 x 29mm
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Although this meter is designed to measure small currents you can use it to measure small voltages from a microcontroller or such as well, or simply in a portable battery test meter. Testing reveals that a voltage through of about 0.75V without the meter hooked in gives an FSD to the right stop and if you take a measured five volt supply and take the input to the meter from the wiper of a potentiometer (a 10k one will do) acting as a voltage divider you can calibrate this meter to give you a voltage reading. Electrically the reading should be linear, but you have to bear in mind there's a mechanical spring which will throw it off slightly and so lower readings may show a little higher on the scale. Still, it is good enough for practical purposes.

How do I connect the meter to the aerial?

Asked by: Oggi
I'm not sure what you mean with this question. This signal strength meter can be incorporated into a circuit of your own design it connects via 2 spade terminals on the rear. It may be you are confusing this device with a TV aerial signal strength meter (see link below) which would be used to align a TV aerial for optimum performance. http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/maxview-hq-digital-tv-signal-finder-a72jx

If you want to change the scale the front cover is held in place by sticky tape which is easy to remove. Then glue your scale over the top of the existing one
