Rated 5 out of 5 by from i now have this item installed in the defunct sunroof of my mitsu pajero after suffering dead batteries . it is wired via a switch direct onto the terminals of the battery. problem solved

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Despite having used solar chargers for some years, this one is a disappointment. Unlike my other ones, this version does not provide a reassuring light to indicate that it is producing a charge and given the state of the battery, which is always low or flat despite the panel, I suspect the panel is faulty. In short, avoid this version as it does not include a light to show that a charge is being produced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought to keep battery in my caravan topped up in storage. Has worked perfectly for 3 months since fitted. Very pleased with it so far.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from No more flat battery (after 6 months) Yes, it would be nice to have the reassuring LED, but I have tested it with a multimeter whilst plugged in and can get about 180mA in good sunlight. It does drop somewhat (to about 40mA) when the sun goes in - despite the description stating it only needs daylight not sunlight? Also, what's that other review about it not working in a garage over the winter? They didn't state if the garage had windows or not!? Mine is left outside and just happens to be south-facing and 6 months later, never had a flat battery. Had to wire my aux socket to a permanent feed but it's all been worth it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job fine Having read some of the other reviews here, I thought I'd add my twopence worth. I have a few solar chargers. They do NOT replace mains battery chargers and if your have all sorts of gizmos fitted to your car or boat or whatever that constantly drain your battery even when the "whatever" in use, this may not manage to keep up with the "whatever's" power demands. It may not be a big deal to disconnect the battery from the "whatever" when you leave it for long periods so the solar panel has nothing to do but charge the battery. If you leave a car with the battery running, bad earths, car clocks, alarms etc will drain the battery perhaps faster than this can get electricity into it. A mains battery charger (which is something you should have as well as one of these ... maybe two or three depending on how many car and leisure batteries you need to look after) will recharge a dead or severely depleted battery quickly. Use a mains battery charger when your "whatever" has a depleted battery after running it in the winter (using heater, demister, cig lighter, lights, windscreen wipers etc.. even when driving can use more electricity than the "whatever's" alternator or generator spits out). Also, cold starting is an issue since lubricating oil is less viscous when cold and the battery is less efficient by quite some way when cold. Make sure your "whatevers" have decent earths and get an alternator checker (you connect it over a battery's terminals and it tells you what's behaving itself). Anyway, these tips are mainly aimed at the people who wrote naff reviews about this (apart from the one about the glass cracking). Bearing in mind the inconvenience and cost (if you don't have breakdown cover) of having a flat batter, getting one or two of these is a no brainer. I recently had a vehicle with terrible earths and drove around with one of these on the dashboard charging a leisure battery so that IF I discovered the bad earths were affecting the charging of the battery by the alternator, I could use my own, fully charged battery and some jump leads to get going again. Lots of uses for these things.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Inefficient Failed to maintain 100Ah battery connected to a garaged car over the winter months, despite starting the car at least once a week. Perhaps the alarm system & tracker unit drain on the vehicle was too much for the panel to maintain. With all the recent sunshine, I was hoping the problem would be resolved but it's not looking promising. May try a second unit fitted 'in tandem' Agree with the previous criticism regarding lack of operating information light.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No Evidence that it works This solar panel doesn't appear to work as I still to jump start my car when sat for long periods of non use with the panel in the sun. Don't waste your money.

Is it self regulating or is regulator required where no drain

Asked by: Stctw
A regulator would not be needed when used with a car battery.

my car get a flat battery we this help to stop this and does it work with cig lighter

Asked by: gaz1
Unfortunately we are unable to guarantee that item will solve your flat battery woes as this can be caused by many things. Things this item will not fix: An aged or faulty battery that needs to be replaced A short or large drain on the battery. The item will help if the car is stood for long times with out use, helping stop things such as the immobiliser draining the battery. The item will provide charge via the cars 12v socket if this is always active such as when the keys are removed from the vehicle ( this is not the case in most modern cars ) an easy way to test this is to plug something into and see if it still works when you take the keys out.

Would this solar charger be compatible with regulator N82AU ? Would it also be suitable and powerful enough to trickle charge a 12V 80Amh boat battery that has no drain on it when not in use.
