  • In Answer To Steve's review, i bought this in store it a good little unit, but steve you should have ask a question does it have a ground connector?...i have a brand new Sound Lab USB DJ Turntable GO56C with RCA connectors no ground wire, so No buzz, hiss or hum, now i have a new amp from Pyle Audio PTAU45 so i don't need this at the moment, so i'll keep this little gem safe until i do need it again...i do recommend anyone going back to re-discover their old vinyl again to get a USB turntable with out ground wire, then you dont have to worry about connecting the deck to the modern day amps....a very good well made product indeed.

  • No turntable pre amp should be made without an earth, what were they thinking? Even with an earth cable connected to a number of things to bodge an earth there is still far too much noise, and the output is far too low. This will be going back to the shop.

  • I bought this to connect my old Technics SL6 turntable to some powered speakers. Works fine and seems to be very solidly built. Turntable users need to know that you need to earth your turntable to this unit or else an irritating mains hum will result! I eased off one of the casing screws and inserted my earth cable there, tightened it to ensure firm contact. Now I can start to digitise all my old vinyl into my laptop!

  • It does the job, but it does not tell you where to connect the phono ground to so i left it disconnected and got a humming sound so tried connecting the ground wire to the casing of the unit this has cured the problem so the instructions need to be updated as to where to connect this ground wire

  • Recently bought a Sonos system for my wife and this unit allowed me to connect her Record Player into the line-in on one of the Sonos S5 units. Now, shiny new tech meets old school vinyl, filling the house with old (little crackly) classics. Like the other reviewers, pushed/forced the ground connector from the phono leads into the gap in the casing and that seems to have eliminated any buzzing that I first encountered. Also needed to adjust the Sonos setting for the S5 line-in. A very well priced small form factor solution.

  • Agree about the need to earth the turntable. Fed the pre-amp into a Denon CD/DAB/amplifier, but got background buzz on loudspeakers. Remembered the earth wire on the turntable, but couldn't see anywhere on the little black pre-amp to attach it. So took the wire straight to the Denon, and loosened a case screw to attach it to. Result, blissful background silence and brilliant sound! But a fixing screw should have been provided on the pre-amp.

  • For the money this is an excellent little phono pre amplifier. I had real problems with noise from my turntable, and this pre amplifier cured the problem. No earth connection needed. If you have a budget turntable then this pre amplifer is in my opinion a winner.

I have an all in one turntable (one of the new ones designed to look retro) and a soundbar - was hoping to connect the turntable to the soundbar (its a cheap Sondstrom but has loads of connections) with something like this - would I need an amp though? Thanks!

You probably won't need a pre amp, but I would check with the manufacturer of the turntable to be certain.
