What does this security kit provide me with?
This eight-channel security system kit provides 24-hour protection and security for your home or business. It includes four Swann Pro-T853 1080p cameras, with the option to add a further four cameras. The cameras can be installed indoors or outdoors and are IP66 weatherproof rated. Each camera has an amazing 80-degree viewing angle, both horizontally and vertically, providing brilliant coverage of your property.

The kit gives you everything you will need to get your CCTV system installed, including 18 metres (60 feet) of cabling per camera, a power adapter with splitter, a mouse and some theft deterrent stickers. The kit includes the relevant cables required to set your CCTV system up, both to your TV, and to connect your DVR to your router, to enable remote viewing.

The Swan DVR8-5000 series 2TB DVR has the added bonus of being compatible with an array of wireless smart home devices. Future proof your home and allow the DVR8-5000 to integrate with up to 100 different smart home devices from SwannOne, Kwikset, Phillips Hue, Assa Abloy, Yale, Jasco, Centralite, SamsungSmartThings and Nest.

How much can I record with this CCTV kit?
The preinstalled 2TB hard drive can give you an incredible 30 days of recording, and the kit’s motion-detect feature means you can record only when movement is picked up, which will extend this considerably. The DVR8-5000 has one hard drive space, however this can take up to a 4TB hard drive, which can double your storage capacity.

Can I view the cameras remotely?
The SwannView Link app lets you keep an eye on your security kit wherever you are, giving you peace of mind whether you are at home or away – and even if you’re abroad. Ensure your DVR is connected to the internet - using the cables provided - and install the app on your smartphone or tablet, using mobile data or Wi-Fi. Your phone can then remotely connect to the kit, providing you a live video feed from each camera, and the ability to playback stored recordings. The SwannView Link app is compatible with iOS and Android devices, as well as Windows and Mac.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It's not smart.. I bought this hoping that I would get alert on the SwannOne apps if someone approach my driveway or back gate. But this unit does not alert you or send you any notification. If it does not alert you then how would you know who's at yr house and this I think is very very poor. Security means you need to know who's outside your house first. It's no good if some is already in your house and then get your alert. You should be able to get your outside alert first and check your cctv. I'm returning this unit on Monday. Not happy at all. The only alert you can get is from yr email if you set it up n it not very good too. Should not call this unit Smart at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product I have been using this for over a week now and it's brilliant. High Def images, Alerts on mobile and recording to 2TB disc is fantastic. The cameras are very sensitive to movement so I had to reduce the sensitivity. It was detecting insects flying around in the night :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good kit! Great hardware and good software on the DVR and most importantly these are ALL METAL CAMERAS. Remote app is fine and a little temperamental, but OK once set up. I'm unable to comment on the smart features as I haven't got any of these devices yet! As another review correctly states the default setting on the unit is set to VGA and is not a fault. If you are using an HDMI cable on a newer TV or monitor this shouldn't be an issue. If in doubt, experiment! A point to note for those people who are complaining about these cameras not picking up number plates at night....these are only relatively cheap cameras...now take a look at these police camera action TV programs and look at the night time images of town centre CCTV and motorway cameras and other industrial cameras in supermarkets and car parks all costing thousands of pounds each and they can not pick up car number plates very well!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great, simple, high quality product Bought this to replace an older standard definition system. Physical setup was easy, cables are a decent length, camera angles are nice and wide and can be positioned anywhere at any angle. Great deterrent. Much more detail below.. Software: ======== Software is good and the apps for remote viewing are great. The App side can be a little fiddly to setup (there are 2 apps to install) but once done, it's just worked no problem. The PC software is a little trickier as it seems to struggle at certain resolutions (More techy explanation: I have an HD laptop with the size of text, apps etc set at 150% which is the recommended setting. At this size it scales the Swann App to 150% meaning it covers 1 and a half screens and you can't simply resize the app, you need to reduce the Text, App size on the PC to 100% to get it full screen, at which point all is good...) Hardware - Base unit ================ The actual hardware unit for recording and playback is sturdy and feels like a quality product, as do the cameras. One point to note during setup: I had the main unit plugged in via HDMI to my lounge TV. The unit flashed up momentarily, then the screen went blank. This is because the default setting on the unit was to output at a lesser resolution (probably to support the VGA port). To get it working I had to connect it via a VGA cable, change the Output of the unit to HD, then switch to the HDMI cable. Once that was done, it was all sorted Hardware - Cameras ================ Cameras feel very sturdy and high quality. The images from them are excellent day and night, though at night they (as all others I've seen) suffer with any artificial light. As an example, I can see everything day and night clearly. During the day, I can see the number plates of cars pulling onto my driveway, but at night, the lights from the car dazzle a little and reflect too much for you to see the reg plates. This is getting pretty picky though as I'm not sure any other units in the domestic price range would cope any better. Performance ========== So far so good. Picture quality excellent, playback via multiple cameras at once with a timeline which shows you when each camera has footage. You can also set a pre-record time, so I now get 30 seconds of recorded footage before the motion detector picks something up, so you get a decent chunk of footage before something actually happens. Monitoring via the app is great, and remote playback is excellent too. Proof ==== On the night of install, I only got a couple of cameras up and running. However, this was enough to ascertain that if was a fox who decided to leave a present on my doorstep (thanks to motion detection and night vision), rather than a disgruntled neighbour. On the second night, someone decided to drive into the front wall of our garden, blaming a car coming in the other direction. A quick remote playback proved to them that not only was there no other car, but that I also had footage of him hitting the wall, including his number plate, and as a bonus, HD footage of hi standing on my driveway watching the previous footage of him driving into my wall! Banged to rights! Can't comment on ============== The Smart Home features. Wife has not permitted any Smart Home purchases yet, so I don't have anything to add on this, though from the looks of the compatibility it could integrate with a number of options, though I'm not too sure why I'd want to. I want the CCTV to just record when something happens. If I got notified every time it detected movement, I'd be bombarded (leaves on trees, spiders on cameras etc, people innocently walking past the house) What's not good ============ Being pretty harsh, the previously mentioned night vision for picking up number plates is not great, but you can still easily see they type of car and make out peoples faces, it's just the glare added by the cars lights. The deterrent stickers you get to put in your window are basically adverts for Swann and feature the company name as the prominent text. You can barely make out that it also mentions CCTV being present, so buy some alternates if you want the added deterrent factor Summary ======= At this price point (£379 for the base and 4 cameras, plus £90 for an additional 2 cameras), I think this is a no brainer. I'm tempted to add a couple more cameras, possibly a Dome with Audio for the front door, but if I add much more I'm just going to end up staring remotely at my house all day waiting for something to happen! Would thoroughly recommend

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cheap CCTV solution that does the job Neat little system, set up for the 4 cameras and software approx 1 day for 1/2 people assuming straight forward locations and previous experience of installing cables and cameras. Some prior technical knowledge on router setup useful, fortunate that a staff member from Local Maplin store could assist and once setting for UpnP was selected the cameras started working in the app. The SwannViewLink app is basic but does the job of viewing and playing back remotely. However trying to get email working. System runs just ok with standard ADSL (5mb line) even when playing back, all in all a cost effective solution, images are generally good and fit for purpose. Poor/limited cable length, average apps are only let downs, but would recommend the system to those with prior CCTV installation experience.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good in the day, night time lets it down. I bought this camera today, it was realiticely easy to set up and the software is fairly intuitive. In daylight, the camera works as expected and 12fps is sufficient for getting the detail I require. The major downfall is it's ability to read number plates at night, It is absolutely useless if the vehicle has its headlights on. We have tried adjusting the contrast/brightness/hue which made little difference. The only reason we purchased this was to record who entered our drive and it is simply not up to it.

Hi, I have 2 x Swann Pro-690 PTZ's pre-installed working on an older Swann DVR. I realise they won't be the up to HD resolution but are they compatible with the DVR8-5000 please? Looks to me that the DVR receives Composite video over the RCA cables?

Asked by: tj2k
These would not be compatible with this system.

How do you set up the Swann Smart Accessories to communicate with the DVR8-5000. Such as your A81WG Dome Camera or the Door Contact (N05JX). Again the manual does sem to cover these accesories.
