Special Features

• Visual representation of signal strength using an LED ring, which lets you see the signal the range extender is transmitting

What can I expect from this wireless range extender?
The TP-Link TL-WA850RE helps get rid of wireless blackspots and low signal areas throughout your home. This mains powered device, once paired with your router, amplifies the received signal and provides you with increased coverage for your wireless devices.

What wireless signal does this extender offer?
The wireless range extender operates on a 2.4Ghz frequency, able to handle 300Mbps wireless signals. This allows you to connect multiple devices to this range extender and provide them with network access and web browsing. Devices that lack wireless functionality can be attached to the single 10/100 fast Ethernet port and connect to your wireless network that way. This is perfect for a game console or smart television.

How easy is this range extender to set up?
The range extender can be positioned wherever there is a mains socket in your home, and can be moved as needed. A link to the router can be established by using the WPS buttons on the router and range extender. Once a link has been achieved, a circular ring of LEDs will display the current signal strength. Devices can then be wirelessly connected to the range extender.

What is TP-Link Tether?
TP-link tether is a free application that is included with the TP-Link 300Mbps universal range extender. It allows you to monitor and control your wireless connection from a portable device.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works a treat - With BT Home Hub 3 Love this. Bought it because my hub is on one side of the house and I needed wifi in my gamesroom so I looked at wifi extenders and repeaters. After comparing it with many, I finally chose this one because Maplin dropped the price. I plugged it in next to my hub (As the instructions say) and waited until the light flashed and then I connected it by pressing the WPS button on my hub. Then I unplugged it and plugged it in somewhere I needed. 4 out of 5 bars on the extender and a very fast speed for my wireless devices. To save on space and wires, I have removed all the powerline adapters and gone completely wireless. Love it! And definitely recommend it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Used this with the latest modem router from TD-Link but it would not make an automatic connection. So I used a laptop running Vista and hi-fived using wi-fi. On first connecting it asked for a PIN and that really threw me into a panic. No mention of PIN in the manual or on the hardware! When I calmed down I saw the option of connecting WITHOUT the PIN. Everything went fine after that and it works a treat. It is on our upstairs landing where the LEDs double as a night light.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No good with BT home hub 2 or 4 I bought this a couple of years ago for my mum and have on many occasions tried to set it up without success. Like other reviewers, I've found it links with the BT router and presents my devices with a strong network signal. Android, ios and windows devices can all attach to the network, but cannot get the Internet connection. There's something about the way the home hub router interacts with the tp-link extender that blocks access to the Web. I've given up and it's now in the bin. I've also resolved not to buy any other tp-link products. My Devolo works fine at home, so I'm sticking with them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works Perfectly After reading a number of the reviews with people with BT Home Hubs I can report that it worked perfectly with the BT Home Hub 3.0 and 5.0. Currently on the 5.0, there are less drop outs as the 3.0 would change channel to the channel with the less traffic. However, the channel switch would not be incorporated into the extender, causing the loss of signal, resulting in restarting the Wi-Fi extender. With the 5.0, channel switching does not affect the Wi-Fi extender and so works brilliantly. In a Steel Framed Building, the extender works a treat and going to buy another!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Doesn't work with BT Home Hub. Will not set up properly - fails to lock on to the root AP. If the alternative set-up method is tried, it will not work with a PC, though it may do so with a laptop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Had this in and working in under 5 mins. Just put in the wireless code into the configuration web page of the router you want to attach to and it connects and boosts. This one boosting a sky router. Now good signal in living room where previously we had to hold devices in the air or at a funny angle, you know what I mean! Note that you need to put it where there is a half decent signal already, more like a relay if you like to extend the range. Thought previously that netgear was better but this was just as simple, if not simpler (read the netgear booster reviews!).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I exchanged a useless Netgear range extender for this model and it works perfectly. The two button set up did not work on my Virgin Media Netgear router but the on line set up had me connected with ease. Many thanks to Maplins for great customer service.

I have a smart tv in my bedroom but my router is in the living room could I use this device.

Asked by: Michael
It would depend on how the TV needs to connect, wired or wireless, and the strength of your WiFi signal. Without knowing the specifics of your situation it might work for your needs but we couldn't guarantee.

Unfortunately these are meant to be used in a home wifi environment as you need access to the router to connect these to the network.

I have a new router, but I can't connect the TPLink to the new router as the old router keeps appearing despite it being disconnected?

Asked by: Roisin
This would require a factory reset as its still looking for the old router, I would refer to the user manual for the full operation on how to achive this.

Can you use more than one of these in line from one end of the house to the other from your bt hub. I've already got one and wanted to add another one in line

Asked by: Stu Jamison
Each cascade will reduce the overall speed, it would be far better to use powerline plugs. something like this would be ideal. http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/tp-link-tl-wpa4226-av600-powerline-wifi-kit-a50wf

Hello, is it compatable with EE fibre broadband router as the router doesn't have a wep /wps button on it, so not sure how to link tp extender to router. Thanks

Asked by: Julian
This would need a manual set up to be done if no WPS button is on the router. I would check this information as even the first EE router's had WPS ability.
