I needed to use a programming lead with a serial 9 pin plug, and so needed an adaptor to use with a USB socket. This arrived very quickly and worked perfectly, so avoiding the need to chnge the plug on the lead.
Great! Used to have a startrak converter and lost it so had to buy a new one. The startrak is about double the price of this one but uses exactly the same drivers so didn't need to do anything and works perfectly with Windown 8! Happy days!!
For those of you refusing to pay the £37 that Meade charge for this (or its equivalent), I can confirm that this adaptor will connect a PC or laptop to a Meade ETX PE125 telescope. It works perfectly, is well made, and a lot cheaper than their price which I think is obscene.
If anyone is wondering if this works with Windows 8, the answer is yes. It has the correct chip set and you only have to download the latest drivers from prolific.
It does what it says on the box - no problems with installing the drivers for Win 7,it did its job fine, and appears to be well made too.
This serial link was very easy to install and connect. For this reason I have given it a good rating. Unfortunately my requirement is quite specialised requiring a UART 16550 chipset compatibility. Unfortunately the link did not work, therefore I concluded it is not compatible. I will have to keep hunting.
Bought this to connect Garmin Venture - worked One small snag - no install leaflet in package So for info - Load Driver before connecting adaptor to a USB Port
I have purchased this item to work my Icom PCR1000 Scanning Receiver on a laptop without a RS232c connector and it works, I have tried others that dont worth noting if you own the POCR1000. Robbie
