Rated 3 out of 5 by from It features BBC i-player, but the normal feature available off the i-player web page to watch live TV is absent. Installation is very easy and watching programmes from the i-player library good. With a slower connection (1.5meg) it buffer a bit at the start but then goes all the way though without stopping. There is no ITV player. After being installed a couple of days it did an update and more options appeared in the services menus, still no ITV. Some of the services listed are subscription-only and one of these at least required a premium subscription, so if you're buying for this purpose beware. It was relatively easy to connect to my local NAS, play videos and display photos but some videos taken on a phone didn't seem to have sound. Reasonable value for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Player - Worth a Purchase Was a bit slow to work on first operation, but realised that it was indexing my hard drive and getting all the movie/tv series covers (a nice touch) so this can be forgiven. Menus and Huds are really nice and slick, video quality is also top notch. Being able to use my tablet or phone as the remote is a great addition, as are the 2 USB ports. Hard drive compatibility has not been a problem either - both NTFS WD myBook and portable Seagate drive work fine. Has so far played everything I have thrown at it. Didn't get it for the iPlayer or any of those services as already have other bits of kit that will - cannot comment. Looking forward to getting a NAS hard drive (eventually) but have streamed stuff from my computer over Wi-Fi and so far, so good. Only niggles I have are that it turns on automatically with the socket and reverts back to 720p resolution after being switched off at the wall. This should be resolved with an update, which do seem to be quite frequent - not disconcerting as at least WD are giving it good support! Would give 4.5 if I could but it's not completely perfect

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The 'WD TV Live' is a 'Media Streamer' that I think is a quite handy device for music, movies, videos, and photos except it does seem to be a bit slow while loading but once it has loaded you have many options available. The 'WD TV Live' itself has great potential to be a great add-on to a TV and if it updated with some updates could be an alternative to spending a big amount of money on a 'Smart TV' with it's many 'Online Services' such as Netflix, Deezer, Facebook, Accu-whether and many more. As well as the option of connecting a Multi-Media device such as a Camera or a Memory Stick and show your family some photos, videos or some music. Currently, I use my 'WD TV Live' to watch movies with my subscription to 'Netflix' and listening to music I have stored on my 'Memory Stick' with my brand new home theater system and the results are 'High Quality', one use I recently used was the option to Stream music from my PC this is what 'WD' like to call 'Ready, Set, Stream' and has become very useful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what it says on box.needs a bit of time setting up. Mine kept on crashing with a 3tb hard drive.changed to a 2tb and worked perfect.plays all files and sbs 3d, a good bit of kit just spend some time with it when it comes out the box its worth it in the long run.also plays flac files .a big plus for that.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK but has issues On the positive side, the device is reasonably easy to set up the first time and gives good sound quality (I've purchased it purely for streaming audio from a NAS drive to the HiFi). Supports a fairly wide range of audio formats. Negatives: it is painfully slow moving up and down menus. It crashes frequently and has to be repowered up. Some of the menu items are obscure and the handbook is not helpful. The firmware is heavily locked down in this version, so don't think of installing wdlxtv to improve the functionality - it won't work. No wired network connection. Not bad for the price I guess.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Improved WD TV Live The WD TV Live has developed some new features that make the product even better. Some of these updates improve performance, some improve apps and some add apps. I'm afraid I am going to have to disagree with Chris.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for personal video streaming I use this product to stream photos and mp4/m4v files from my NAS drive. It works a treat, so I have one in the lounge and one in the bedroom. Drm protected files won't play for obvious reasons. It has bbc iplayer, but lacks other catch up tv options. Once these are added ( hopefully will happen) then 5 stars will be awarded

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looked promising but failed to deliver. My three main gripes are: 1. There are numerous reports of devices hanging and freezing with no apparant remedy (and pretty ineffectual support by the looks of it). If you don't believe me check out WDs own support website. 2. It won't play my .vob files properly which was why I bought it. 3. It's expensive for what it is. Let the buyer beware!

My movies are MPEG2s & are held on an external 2TB HDD (NTFS) Seagate. Will this box allow me to play these MPEG2s on a Sony Bravia TV? Can the Ext HDD plug directly into this box without the need for a laptop, & does the box connects to the TV via HDMI?

Asked by: RoyWee
Yes this will work fine in your intended application.
