Jeremy Goldsmith from Southampton won £5,000 at the Telford International Centre tonight with victory in the Maplin UK Powerball Championship.
Goldsmith got the better of the UK's top Powerball experts in the foyer of the venue, shortly before the beginning of the concluding session of the snooker semi-final between Mark Selby and Ronnie O'Sullivan.

He recorded a score of 15,139 rpm to take the first prize. Goldsmith could have earned an extra £10,000 if he could have beaten the world record of 16,553 held by Akis Kritsinelis, but he could not acheive that feat.
Akis himself, from Greece, was also present and attempted to break his own record, but couldn't get past the 16,000 barrier.
Powerball is the world's most powerful hand-held gyroscope. It is designed to strengthen lower arms and wrists for playing musical instruments and sports such as snooker, golf and tennis and is played by simply rotating the device in the palm of your hand
