This portable solar light is an easy way to provide light inside small buildings where there is no access to mains electricity. It is ideal for use in sheds, garages, stables, summer houses as well as for camping and other outdoor activities. The solar panel charges the three internal AA rechargeable batteries (located in the light unit) during the day ready for operation at dusk. This portable solar light has 10 super bright LEDs and can be activated either by the on/off switch located on the light unit or by using the supplied remote control. The light is connected to the solar panel using the included 1.7m cable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I wanted to have a light for the winter to light up the area where my recyling is but didn't want to go to the trouble of getting an electrician to install a mains powered one and also didn't want a PIR one that would activate everytime a wild animal took a shortcut through our garden. This one fits the bill perfectly, it was east to install, with just 4 holes to drill and up it went. The remote control is genius, I just walk outside hit the remote button and the area is lit up perfectly allowing me to put the correct reclying in the correct bin. Thanks Maplin for selling an un complicated bit of kit that does what it says on the box.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from We bought two of the for stables and just fitted one to see how bright it was. Very easy to fit but I agree with another reviewer who said its a pity the solar panel is not very adjustable as I couldn't twist it to face the sun. We returned to the stables that night when it was dark and was pleased with the light it threw into the stable. However when I really needed it about 2 weeks later there was no power whatsoever and I had to resort to a torch - not happy, so about to dismantle and return to shop, they are only 3 weeks old- shame as it seemed a good solution.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I have just installed one of these in my garden shed, and it is working well (at least during the summer). It is easy to install and after 3 days of charging my dark remote shed has a light with no running costs! On the negative side, the cable is rather short, so you can only fit this light close to a sunny place. My shed is on the east side of my house, and I wish I could extend the cable round to the south side. I have yet to find out if the panel will receive enough sunlight during the winter. But so far so good, and I am pleased with it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I've brought 2 of these two years ago, they both still work fine. The problem we had with them is that if you leave the unit on, and just use the remote, it eventually drains the battery even when the light hasn't been used. We found that it is better just to use the switch on and off when required, and ignore the remote. Since doing that we've had no problems with them. However this only works if you can locate them somewhere that you can easily reach the switch! I did have to move them.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Read the reviews, saw the price and thought it would be perfect for my new shed (10ft * 7ft). At the moment it's a little disappointing as the light is quite dim, but half of the initial days the instructions say to allow to charge the batteries has been overcast, so I'm still hoping for better results. Apart from that the build quality is fine, with descent length of cable and a compact solar panel. Shame the solar panel mount isn't an adjustable ball & socket joint to match the light mount, as the fixed bracket for the solar panel is limiting in terms of fixing angles.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I returned the first one because I thought it was faulty, but the replacement is the same. You turn it on with a switch on the lamp unit, and after that it should go on and off with the remote. In practice, every couple of days it stops responding to the remote and you have to reset it with the manual switch (this when there is plenty of charge left to work the LEDs). Fine if you sited it where can reach it easily, but then you wouldn't need a remote-controlled light. I tried it without the solar charger, substituting normal batteries, and the remote feature never went to sleep like this . So you can use the remote if you throw away the solar panel, or solar-power if you throw away the remote.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought this to install into my garden shed. An absolute doddle to install and works really well. The Shed is 10ft X 6ft and the lamp easily provides enough light in the dark. Very impressed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A handy solar light that I use on a side path. Can be switched on at the light itself or controlled with supplied remote control - useful in the dark! About three hours illumination from full charge as light is quite bright. Rechargeable batteries are very easy to replace when required.

Can the light be left on for hours or do they automatically switch off after a while? I see a motion sensor, but not sure if the remote is able to let the lights on for a long period of time..

Asked by: lucky77
The light is switched on or off via the provided remote control, it will stay lit whilst ever there is power in the battery for it to do so. The battery will be slowly recharged over time with solar energy. A full battery would give 3 hours illumination before being fully drained. The light is intended for short term illumination only, if you need longer then a mains powered unit would probably be a better choice,.
