Product overview

• Microprocessor control and switching mode designed for DC 12V or DC 24V battery system• Great for charging both your MP3 and your sat nav• 7 of the most popular power tips included• Large illuminated display with colour options• Accurately shows selected output voltage and how much current the load is drawing• Digital selection of regulated output voltage including 5V• Automatic low battery voltage cut-off• Output short circuit and overload protection• High temperature protection• Input fuse protection

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A well designed and solidly built unit with some great features. The case is metal with a solid, quality feel and easy to read LCD display. Wires and contacts supplied are good quality. Even comes complete with a spare fuse for the car-plug. The instruction sheet is clear and informative . One of the best features is that it switches itself off if the car battery goes below a certain level of charge - unlike the cheaper devices, it won't leave your battery flat if you forget to unplug. It powers my DVD player without trouble and charge my USB blackberry or TomTom at the same time. Great value for money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This 3A power adaptor has been working well to provide a 'regulated' power supply for my netbook (usually drawing 1A according to the current indicator, and using up to 3A when charging the computers' internal battery). The charger requires 24v to give a 12v supply; this can be acheived by converting 12 to 24v with one of Maplins' car-laptop power adaptor and plugging it into the 3A adaptor. A wind-turbine provides the charge for my battery, so I use a second 3A dc power adaptor to display the battery voltage level (and as a charger for various 5v devices). Has been serving me reliably for over four years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As Steve has said, a compact, solid, well made and very useful product that's worth the few extra pounds it costs - especially the feature that cuts-off the accessories power and warns you if the car battery voltage dips below a level that won't start the car! The ability to change the display colour is nice too, so you can match the colour of your cars usual display lighting. I also like the voltage display for quickly checking batteries in cars that aren't used too frequently to see if they need recharging. A great, robust product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great little unit This a great little unit. It's versatile range of regulated output voltages and useful output current capability allows it to be used as a small programmable bench power supply. I've increased the scope of my unit by providing a 12 V DC input supply derived from a redundant AC mains powered charger module, so I can use it at home for a range of uses. The output current is limited to that of the input supply, up to the 3 Amp internal limit of the unit. Finding a suitable connector for the 12V input was the biggest problem, as it's not compatible with many similar 12V connectors, due to it's centre pin being thicker than normal. The output current is displayed by a bar graph, not digitally as the output voltage, but it's still a very useful guide to load conditions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great device Used it for a couple of years with camping leisure battery. Works with all sub 12V devices and USB charging at the same time. Easy to adjust. Charges new rechargeable Roberts radio very well. Solid metal case. An excellent product.

What are the power tip sizes

Asked by: Eamonn
The charging tip sizes aren't given by the manufacture unfortunately. They are listed as common tips, used for applications such as mobile phones (has a USB port) , and GPS , digital cameras or handheld games systems etc (DC jack out) .

What is the output socket and input socket on it? Is it powerful enough to run AAA battery powered devices of my solar array?

Asked by: random_bloke
It is connected via the cigarette lighter (input) and can use one of the universal tips via (ouput) dc for your device, Assuming your solar array has the same connections and not over the peak ampage of this product (see spec )
