Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great replacement PSU When the PSU for my router failed, this was an ideal replacement particularly as I needed to change the supplied 13A plugtop for a 2A round pin plugtop (i.e. I could not use a PSU with a built-in 13A mains plug). This unit has proven reliable over several years and is a compact size and does not get appreciably warm. The output connector size is popular on much equipment. The only disadvantage with this PSU is that the price is quite high compared with those that can be bought online from China. Then again, you don't have to wait weeks or months for it. If I had needed to incorporate this PSU within any equipment, the lugs would have been important. Recommended.

My broken adaptor for LED lit Xmas tree, has a label which says Model No: JT-12V1000 PRI: 230V-240V ~50Hz SEC: 12V ~1000mA Max: 12VA Is this the equivalent one?

Asked by: Meltow
Since the details you give state output as "12V~", I guess you have a multicolour fibreoptic Christmas tree. If so, this power supply would not work as the multicolour effect is made by an AC motor inside the base. A DC power supply would not turn the motor and its coloured disc. The symbol "~" means AC (Alternating Current). Hope this helps.

I have a small set of lights, the adaptor has broken, would this one be suitable to replace mine, my spec says: Input: 240V ~ 50Hz 5VA Output: 12V ~ Max 2.4VA Or do you have anything similar to this or suitable. Many Thanks.

Asked by: Gail
The Maplin power supply will provide 12VA (i.e. 12Watts) so this is sufficient for the 2.4VA the lights require. The mains requirements are fine as well. The two remaining factors are the connector and its polarity that the lights need. Since you have the original (dead) one, you could measure the OUTSIDE diameter: Maplin's one is 5.5mm. If this is the same as the dead one, the CHANCES ARE that the inside pin diameter is 2.1mm as well which matches Maplin's. The final factor is the polarity: Maplin's one has the centre pin as positive (which is the most common configuration). Have a look on the dead one as it may have a little diagram that looks a bit like this: --C•--+ve. The "C" indicates the outer connection whilst the "•--+ve" indicates a positive inner connection. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Will this power an Itarsam portable projector?

Asked by: molo
Impossible to say with no specific data. In order to answer your question we would need to know the following Voltage and type required .... for example 12 DC or 18v AC Current required .. for example 200ma , 1A , 5 A Polarity of power connector ... centre positive/centre negative size of power connector (inner barrel outer barrel and shaft length) e.g. 5.5 x 2.5 x 9mm armed with all of this info we can answer your question

I have 12v led strip lights (10m) under my kitchen wall units, can I use this to power them? Is it safe to add a 12v switch between this device and the lights? The cheap chinease one I've been using for 2 years just blew the plug apart! :(

Asked by: Rizla
It would depend on the current requirements for the LED strip. At 10m it is likely that you will require a much higher amperage than that supply provides, however what you will need will depend entirely on the full power specifications for the strip. Once you can establish the full power requirements of the strips a suitable power supply and switch may be possible.
