A VRLA battery is a recombinant reaction battery. This means that
the oxygen normally produced on the positive plates of all lead-acid
batteries is absorbed by the negative plate. This suppresses the
production of hydrogen at the negative plate. Water (H2O) is
produced instead, retaining the moisture within the battery.
It never needs watering, and should never be opened as this
would damage the battery with additional oxygen from the air.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The picture is not correct, the battery is a different shape with top screw bolt terminals. It is notably heavy for its size but works excellent for float/backup..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good, this battery is performing well so I am buying another at this good price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks nothing like the picture I have now bought two of these batteries for solar projects. They work well. They don't look like the picture at all but actually look a lot better with a completely black casing with Maplin branding.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very functional and robust. I have bought 4 of these previously and from my point of view they are robust, functional and good value. I use them as a backup store on a standalone PV system. Lithium technology is still far too expensive and I can buy a lot of lead/acid cells over 10 years for the cost of a Lithium system battery. They are great value.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from On opening the box the battery was upside down in the packaging and was leaking electrolyte. I took the battery back to the nearest Marlin store and received a full refund with no quibble.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from HEFTY I bought this a few weeks ago and collected from a local store. Be warned, this battery is very heavy! I haven't used it yet, so can't give any usage stats. Overall seems like a good purchase (y)

I'm looking for 2 or 3 new batteries for my solar powered lighting rig. What is the service life of your 12v 100Ah solar battery? Typically service life for sealed lead acid batteries is 5 to 7 years for most manufacturers.

Asked by: None
Unfortunately the supplier has not specified a service life for this item.

I am buying a 30w solor panel from yourselves and have a 12v car battery, will this be ok or do I have to use a solar battery, like this one?

Asked by: Jess
The battery you use will directly affect the amount of energy you can store and ultimately the devices you can power. This battery will allow you to store 100 amp hours. You car battery will likely have a similar rating on it, whatever that figure is is it's store capacity. For example if you are drawing 2 amps per hour then this battery would last 50 hours, if it was 10 amps per hour it would last 10 hours.

I think my question has already been asked, what charge controller should i use with my panel? I think its 30 A, or should it be less?

Asked by: jeremy
This would depend on the panel you are using, a 30 amp controller would be suitable up to a 360w panel so would be suitable for most.
