The LE-V50 is a compact, silent and lightweight vertical axis turbine designed to trickle charge your batteries or provide power for low power electronic devices such as data-logging or telemetry equipment.

The LE-V50 was originally designed to provide power for industrial data monitoring equipment in the most extreme and remote places on the planet. Since then, the LE-V50 has become a regular sight at marinas and caravan parks providing a trickle charge to valuable batteries whilst the vehicle owners are away. This saves owners money by not having to connect to ‘shore power’ or repair and replace expensive batteries that have been damaged by becoming discharged. In the yachting world, the LE-V50 also reduces the effects of mains induced electrolysis and corrosion on the boat as well as meaning that owners can go on extended cruises without need to run the engine. The LE-V50 can also be found all over the world powering small electronic systems in remote places where there is no other power source, such as supplementing Solar PV panels in ‘off-grid’ renewable energy systems and powering LED street lights and other lighting systems.

Indestructible build quality and durability:
The LE-V50 is manufactured from high quality aluminium alloys and stainless steel which has been laser processed, CNC machined, hard anodized and powder coated to ensure that the turbine will withstand the harsh effects of the extreme environments that it was originally designed for. With only 1 moving part, there is little to go wrong and no brushes or slip-rings to wear out and need replacing. The bearings are sealed for life and fully lubricated, so no greasing or maintenance is required. All of the fixings are manufactured from A4 stainless steel which is able to withstand the most corrosive of environments.
The LE-V50 has a design life of 20 years+, but due to its modular design and ease of maintenance, the turbine could easily run indefinitely.
Pure performance:
The LE-V50 uses a proven ‘Savonious’ rotor design which gives silent and effective performance. Using the latest solid modelling and Computational Fluid Dynamic simulations, we have come up with an elegant ‘cross-ventilated’ rotor which provides extremely good power conversion for a vertical axis turbine of this size. The rotor is then coupled to our specially designed low inertia, zero ‘cogging’ axial flux permanent magnet alternator to ensure an excellent power curve whilst the turbine starts up in the lightest of winds. Using Neodymium rare earth magnets, this alternator design has become one of the most field proven and effective alternators that is deployed across the entire range of Leading Edge Turbines!
Absolute safety:
Unlike any other small wind turbine you will find, the LE-V50 can even be allowed to run ‘off-load’ with no connection to the batteries – The LE-V50's rotor design will limit the rpm automatically. You can even try to put your hand into the spinning rotor, but it will be deflected away before any harm is done! These safety features make the turbine ideal for installation in places where space might be an issue, and where people are nearby – perfect for the deck of a sailing boat!

Why does it not need a charge controller and does it cause any discharge from the battery when the wind speed drops

Please see this text found in the manual that you can view from the downloads tab. • Charge Controllers – Normally, the LE-V50 turbine does not require any external charge control equipment to be installed in the system. Due to the low Tip Speed Ratio of the turbine, the turbine output decreases naturally as the battery voltage increases – this provides a natural form of charge regulation. However, in extreme wind environments (such as arctic conditions) and special systems, it is possible to install a DL-300 charge controller. See Appendix for more information.

Hi I am looking for a wind turbine to be installed over my bus. It is possible put it horizontal? The other question is if it is possible put it partially inside or it is needed be exposed to the air totally?

I'd like to connect this into a Solarpod unit. Can this be done in a reasonably easy manner (ie - the right connecting cables) or would additional regulators & safeguards be required? If so, is it equally suitable for 1K or smaller Solarpod?

How long would this take to charge a 100amp hour battery? or how many amps per hour will this put into a battery?

Sorry but it's not a question that is easily answered as the output varies with wind speed. If we use the examples given with the device Output 12v, 11W @ average wind speed of 18mph. This equates to 0.91A per hour. To charge a 100Ah battery from flat to full would take approx 1000+ hours of continuous output. (this does not factor any power lost through natural dissipation)

What height mounting pole does this require? Is there a cable and 12v battery kit?

The listing is for the turbine only, no cable is included. It would be for you to choose a suitable location and method of mounting the device. To store and later use the energy you generate you would typically need a battery a charge controller and an inverter, plus all the cables to connect all of these items together.
