What does a switched double mains socket do?
This switched double mains socket comes as a single pole switch that switches live only. This differs from a double pole switch, which allows you to switch the neutral on and off as well. Rated at 13 amp, this mains socket can be wired into any standard mains socket that is a double gang. A standard design, finished in white, means this mains socket fits in with any décor – but it must be used with a minimum of 25mm mounting box.

What makes this socket different?
This mains socket includes two USB sockets for a total of 2.1A. This allows you to plug in devices such as smartphone and tablets to charge without using the mains socket.

If you are uncertain of how to wire the socket up, please consult a qualified electrician.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So convenient. I'm an elderly man with arthritic knees so working down at floor level is not enjoyable. Further more I have limited skills at electrics. No matter, this twin socket was quick and easy to install. Colour coded terminals added to my confidence and ensured that I fitted my new socket safely. There are 9 double sockets in my lounge and all of them are in awkward places and with the few accessible ones being permanently tied up with chargers this was becoming a nuisance. The chargers built into this socket are quite fast and so convenient. I may install one in every room. Thank you Maplin.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality and not too deep A great way to free-up a socket or two from all the chargers we need these days, and fitted comfortably in place of my existing socket. Wish I had gone for one with higher rated charge sockets though - if two items are on charge the 2.1amp output is split between them, so can be a bit slow charging.

I bought one of these recently and it gets quite hot. Is that normal?

Asked by: Robbocop
If you feel the item could be faulty I would advise to return it, For electrical items getting "hot" can be normal use but as we can't tell how hot this actually is over FAQ I would advise returning the item for testing.
