Product overview

• Portable solar generator built into a protective briefcase making it ideal for camping, caravanning or marine use
• Powerful 13 watt solar charger
• Charges 3V, 6V and 12V appliances
• Flashing charge indicator and blocking diode
• Dual junction amorphous solar cells lead to less power loss
• Includes 4A charge regulator
• Integrated adjustable angle support
• Easy storage
• Complete with all leads needed - suitable for all 12V battery systems

The generator comes complete with an adjustable angle support that allows you to position the solar panels in prime sunlight. The solar panel is an amorphous receptor and is ideally suited to the northern European climate to enable the optimum use of daylight hours. It can even operate behind glass.During peak hours of sunshine, a mobile phone can be charged in an hour.

Please note: This kit is not waterproof. The panel is water resistant so suitable for use in light showers but the charge controller unit should always be kept away from moisture as it is not water resistant.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from We bought this earlier in the year and decided to put it to use before giving a review. We bought it to top up our caravan battery when on non EHU, it has managed to keep the battery fully charged when using lights, water pumps, stereo and blower on the gas fire on the several weekends we have used it. I guess running 12v TV and such like you need something more substantial, but all in all quite pleased as it's done the job we bought it for. The only fault is that you shouldn't leave it out in heavy rain, a bit of a problem unless you want to sit on the campsite all day, the unit has had a soak or two with no adverse effects but perhaps this is more good luck than anything else. A good deal particularly when on offer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solar briefcase works well. Produced 15.5 volts on bright (but overcast) day in the window of our caravan. Product let down by no instructions in box to set up the charging control box, which has 'pictures' adjacent to connections, supposed to guide you, but solar panel connection picture has 2 possibilities of connection and no explanation of either, nor their capacities or limits. Can only award 4 starts because of this, but can still recommend to potential buyers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bought for our Campervan, fantastic keeps the battery fully charged on sunny days, can be left behind your windscreen, on dull days it still puts charge into the battery. We used it for 6 days when at Glastonbury festival, full charged the battery and 4 phones and the campervan lights, only down side is the crocodile clips are a little small to fit on the leisure battery, but easy to strip some of the plastic off with a knife so it will fit. Really easy to install.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have used this panel for 3 years now it will charge my mobile phone in about 50 mins my baitboat batteries in a day no problem in my opinion this panel is head and shoulders above anything else in its price range the regulator is not waterproof I have got round this by buying a couple of very large clear plastic bags dont waste your money on the less powerful ones

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great price (on offer!) However assembly instructions totally inadequate. Missing most important page regarding connecting up regulator. Problem only solved by excellect service provided by Dawn in the Worthing store. Full instructions should be contained in the box or at the very least refer you to the instructions which are are on-line via the product detail on the Maplins web-site.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A very versatile piece of kit that works well. There is a PDF of comprehensive instructions that can be downloaded from the 'media' tab. The regulator, which is not waterproof, has a F4 amp 20mm fuse, so it's a good idea to have a spare or two handy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I inserted a 1amp meter in series to look at the charge current. Using a fairly old 12v 'gel' battery, the panel would not charge via the charge controller in bright sunlight as it was 'overvoltage'. When the battery was discharged too low by an external load while the panel was connected, the panel stopped charging, and only started when the load was disconnected. Removing the charge controller and connecting the panel directly to the battery worked much better and gave a charge under all conditions.

Much has been mentioned about connecting a second panel to this item's regulator. Which panel do you sell that you could recommend for this purpose?

Asked by: MFHBlueberry
I have two solar panels wired into the regulator provided with this solar briefcase and have had no problems. The only limit to how many solar panels (depending upon size and wattage) is the limit of the regulator. As long as you don't exceed 4 amps you should be fine.

Can you charge mobile phones with this?

Asked by: Bhawk
I have this product and can confirm that it charges my Samsung Galaxy GT-I8262 Android phone without any problem. Takes more time than doing it through the mains (depending on light levels), but it can do it.

Bought the briefcase charger to run a cool box and have now seen that it won't on your question page what will it run? It does say on your page that it runs 12v appliances?

Asked by: Shaza
This can run 12V appliances as long as they are low amperage. a cool box would take a large amount of current to run.
