Lets you quickly read and copy data from SATA hard drives without the need for installing them. Just simply drop the drive into the dock and connect to your PC or laptop via the USB connection. You also get a 2-port hub and multi card reader built-in.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from On the whole a very useful addition to my hardware. Works happily under Ubuntu 11.04, and accommodates drives formatted in either FAT32 or EXT4. The card reader accommodates CF cards and is much faster transferring photographs compared with my camera. Only downside is that it interferes with my network printer/scanner, so needs to be unplugged from the USB port when I want to print or scan.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I have been using the Unitek version of this excellent product for 12-18 months as a fast backup system for a large amount of data over a handful of HDs, with no problems - until a week ago, when I started getting write errors, which continued even after I ran a chkdsk d:/f on it. I have since discovered the power supply is faulty. Will try and get a replacement power supply from my local Maplin tomorrow.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works. Read a harddrive, read an SD card. If you turn the power on with a harddrive in it while connected to USB it can serge your USB port causing (in my case) OSX to stop sending power to that port. But if you don't do that it is fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This item arrived in thoughtfully designed packaging for the base unit USB cable and power unit. Very easy to follow instructions and a simple drop in of the SATA drive which worked excellently. Also supplied is a CD with software and numerous additional ports USB / SD etc which I have yet to make the most of. Excellent value for money. Peter G

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked straight out box, only downside, after 2nd drive put in, the little plastic door that flips back up snapped at the hinge and is no loger fitted, however does not affect the function of the unit

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for accessing an old hard disk and more My old computer had finally died and I had salvaged the hard disk. I wanted something which would let me read it and copy anything I needed onto my new computer. This seemed the simplest option. I was slightly confused at first as it looked like there were two different products advertised but then I realised it was the same one, just a couple of different brand names, Unitex and Winstars but they are identical apart from the colour. Mine is the Winstars version. I'm surprised some people couldn't get this to work. I'm using windows 10 and no installation was necessary. I admit I had a little trouble at first. It made a lot of noise and I thought at first it wasn't working but I fiddled about with it and then the files came up on my computer screen, so it might just have been it spinning up the drive for the first time or maybe it wasn't quite connected properly at first. It's been fine since and is now really quiet. As a bonus you get not one but two USB ports and because the unit is mains powered you won't get that message telling you there's insufficient power to run your device. The instructions talk about partitioning the drive but this is only if it's a new uninstalled drive rather than an old one like mine. If you were picky you could complain it is only USB 2.0 rather than 3.0 but it doesn't really bother me. It will also read most types of memory card. You can use it as a backup drive, which maybe I'll do when I've finished extracting any useful stuff, or to clone a drive. All in all a great little product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Setting up and installation was fine. The card reader and USB hub works great. However, the SATA docking section had reliability issues.

For this dock all your text say to READ the SATA drive within the dock can you also WRITE to the HDD in the Dock?

Asked by: GambiArran
As long as you have write permissions for the external drive, or the drive has been formatted as blank, then this should be fine.
