About this product

Product overview

  • 28swg reel of Constantan wire
  • Suitable for making rheostats
  • Can be twisted with copper wire to make a thermocouple
  • Gives around 1mV with temperatures between 0 and 50 degrees celcius

A 28.35g (1oz.) reel of 28swg Constantan (55-60% copper, 45-40% nickel) wire suitable for making rheostats etc. Can be used as a thermocouple when twisted with copper wire. A temperature difference between the wires of approx 25°C gives around 1mV with temperatures in the range 0°C to 50°C. Resistance: 4.2Ω per metre.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Resistance wire Unfortunately the wire delivered was not what I thought I had ordered. However, great customer service including good advice on the web. Would certainly buy here again.

What's the lowest ohms can it go can it get lower than 4.2 ohms

Asked by: Mason1234
if you use less wire the resistance will be lower, this wire has a resistance of 4.2 ohms per metre therefore at half a metre (50cm) the resistance would be 2.1 ohms (approx) and at a 25cm length would have a resistance of 1.05 ohms (approx), you could therefore make up any resistance simply by calculating the length of wire required
